yeah I need to buy the pacific series so i can watch the extras... Haha, yeah Rami's brother is a bit big but they do look alike! This probably won't mean anything but Rami is in Breaking Dawn (Twilight Saga). YAY!
No HBO, I finally have gotten a chance to watch this. I've finished Ep 8 so just have the last disc now. So far I think I still like BOB just a little bit more. I almost feel with the first series following one company through the war, I was able to become more emotionally vested in them. Also feels like I had a better grasp of the timeline in Brothers, whereas in the Pacific, I'm having a hard time understanding what's happening when and for how long. Like I didn't realize they spent 18 months in Melbourne (unless you were paying close attention to the dates on the maps). But maybe that's a further testament to the chaotic nature of that war. And while I don't like as much when they slow the episodes down (Melbourne, Leckie's RnR and then Basilone's story) it definitely was integral to the development of Leckie and Basilone. The battle scenes though are either on par or better than those in Brothers (I dunno I have to go back and watch BOB now). I haven't seen Ep 9 yet but Pelelieu was insane. This series has me going back reading up on all these battles. And after watching Ep 8 I had to look into Basilone and his wife more. The reason why she never remarried? "Once you've had the best, you can't settle for less." That's freakin' awesome. But definitely sad they only had about 6 months together. Will also say that I wished they spent more time on Iwo Jima and maybe showed some of the Naval side of the Pacific, like Midway. Or hell, can we get a movie or another new miniseries that shows the naval battles. I would love to see a remake of Midway.
If that is considered Band of Brothers 2, will "To Appomattox" be part 3? Even though it is a different war?
The 2nd half of The Pacific is far stronger than the first, IMO. It's also a lot more tragic where as BOB kind of gave you a more uplifting ending. I enjoyed both but I think they are just different takes on the personal toll of the war.
Yeah, it's being done by HBO. Although, it still hasn't started shooting. They still claim it's coming out in 2013 though.
