I just signed it. Could you imagine if Bush had to answer questions from the Democrats.

I thought the Q&A exchange between President Obama and Congressional Republicans was fantastic for both sides. I really hope they continue to do that, at least once a year. And I expect they will. It was my sense that the Congressional Republicans really appreciated that exchange, and are looking forward to the next one.

However, doing it with the Congressional Republicans is probably enough. I have to agree with Senator Cornyn on this one. The Senate is more of a slow, methodical, and deliberative body, where the House is more directly responsive to the will of the people. I do not get the sense that this sort of an exchange is really appropriate between the Senate opposition and the President in the same way that it is between the House opposition and the President.

But as a matter of tradition, I hope that the President, whoever that is, will host a televised, unscripted Q&A with the House opposition at least once a year, from now on, going forward. I certainly expect that to happen during the remainder of Obama's term of office. And I will be surprised and disappointed if the tradition is not carried on by the next President as well.
