Grizzlies owner thinks Hasheem Thabeet could haunt them Eric Freeman, Yahoo! Sports, 2/25/10, http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ba...inks-Hasheem-Thabeet-could-hau?urn=nba-326184
I remember Heisley mentioning (or at least hinting) that the Thabeet pick was made in consultaetion with Jerry West who is still friends with Heisley.
Interesting...quick search and I found this interview with Jerry west from October. Maybe this has already been posted... http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2010/oct/20/ex-griz-president-still-a-fan/ Q: You reportedly have a high opinion of Hasheem Thabeet. Why? A: He's going to be in this league, like it or not, 10-14 years. He's going to be in this league that long. He's young and how many guys can block shots like he does in this league? Dwight Howard. If people are going to give up on him then they're crazy. He's got a skill. People that rebound in college rebound in the NBA. People that block shots in college block shots in the NBA.
Lol. A guy that has won 5 championships as a GM is overrated? Man who traded Vlade for Kobe and bought in Shaq being responsible for that 3 peat is also overrated? IDK have the Grizzlies even been to the playoffs since West left there?
As depressing as this place is now, I am in absolute terror of how whiny and b****y it will be after people realize how truly terrible Thabeet is. If you thought Hayes, Jeffries or Battier looked awkward with a basketball, just wait.
The max that Thabeet can achieve IMO is 10 points,8 boards and 2 blocks a night on a consistent basis, and that is really stretching it. It will take him 2 years to get to that level, best case scenario.
All I have to say is Roy Hibbert, Darko Milicic and Andrew Bogut. All were boderline trashy players their 1st 3 years. Everyone called them busts and gave up hope on them. But, look at them now. Incase people didn't know this already, bigs in the NBA take time to develop. Iv'e only been on Clutchfans 4 months and I see plenty of people with alot of posts with hardly any knowledge of the game whatsoever. Give Thabeet another year or two before you decide to judge if he is a bust or not.
