That was a good game. Of course, that doesn't discount the fact that the Rockets pulled stinkers against two of the league's worst defenses. I'm not saying there's an established trend or anything particularity solid, but there is some cause for concern. Of course, if you want to bury your head in the sand and just say "The Rockets are winning, stop analyzing and worrying about ANYTHING!", then just agree to disagree.
Brooks and Scola are more than capable of averaging 10+ a night, with shane coming back, there wouldn't be enough possessions to go around if the big 3 all averaged in the 20ppg range. It's just not necessary for all three to score that much. This team has way more offensive weapons than in the past. Heck, Barry and Rafer could average close to 10 a night.
honestly point spread dont matter to me. as long as we get the W im happy. having tracy or yao drop 30-40 points is just a bonus for them highlight reels but thats not important.
Or one of our ROLE PLAYERS to step up. How about Robert Horry vs (pick one, any team, Spurs, Lakers, Rockets) I pick the one where Duncan was shut down and Horry went bananas and dunked on Rip and shot the winning 3. What about JAMES POSEY last year?
That's a treat, but we don't pay T-Mac, Yao and Artest for nothing. They are the 3 most talented guys on the team, and the 3 guys who are most likely to explode for a huge game. If Scola is hot, feed him! Landry? Let him go to work. But when we face a team like the Celtics, and our role players aren't hitting their shots and 2 of our big 3 are playing below average (similar to tonight's game), that 3rd star needs to be ready to carry the team. If that means scoring 40+ points and unbalanced scoring, then so be it. Not every game will we have 6 players in double digits or our bench going crazy in the 4th quarter...when those games start to arise, we need to be ready. That is why people want T-Mac to start heating it up, and why people have gone crazy over Yao's stats and Artest's game in Dallas. Oh, BTW, winning ugly isn't always a good thing. It buffs up the W column, but as we saw last year, a quick start with a bunch of ugly wins ended up biting us in the a$$. Once guys like T-Mac, Mike James and other started to cool off, we went from 6-1 to 6-7, and the team's offensive flaws that were covered up to start the season were then the reason for the losing.
Here comes the hypocrites (not directly specifically aimed at anyone, but indirectly aimed at everyone).
Dude. That was called having a NEW COACH with a NEW SYSTEM. The team didn't get fully comfortable with the system til the second half of the season. Bad Example.
i am with tinman on this one doesnt matter to me who scores, how we score, how we play defense as long as the rockets win i am happy. as warren sapp says: "I'd take an ugly win 100 times out of a 100 over a picasso loss" now I cant wait to see Ron get inside Pierce's head again come tuesday.
To tell you the truth I don't give a damn how many people score 10 or more as long as we win the game. That is what all that matters to me.
Balanced scoring is great when you have a team as deep as this. It's only going to get better - TMac has only played a few games with Artest. My favorite thing about this season so far is how the Rockets have been closing games. I typically hate watching the Rox going into the fourth with a deficit - they weren't clutch in recent years. Now however...
I only value opinions which have examples linked in old articles, pictures or videos. Nothing else matters.
Remember how the Rockets performed during the 22-game winning streak last season? As I recall, we frequently had many players in double digits and each game someone different was stepping up big. I think balanced scoring is important because it indicates your team and your offensive system is fully capable of scoring in different ways, and gives fits for a defense. You can't just rely on "throw a double team at players x and y and let the other ones kill you...." because, the other ones CAN and WILL hurt you.
What I need is someone off the bench to have double figure points each night. I don't care who it is, if Brooks could give us 10-14, Landry 8, etc. Our bench needs to score at least 25ppg.
