It's certainly possible they changed the recipe. I don't know. I read it with my own, fairly reliable eyes, about a year ago. I bought a bag (not BBQ -- plain) and, after eating one or two, I read the ingredients just because I was bored. I'd never have guessed that any plain Lays would contain chicken fat. But there it was, right in the ingredient list. I can't imagine why they'd change that, but I can't promise they didn't. I CAN promise though that I threw them away and really, really wanted to barf. Just trying to save anyone else who might care the same trouble. Again, like I said, I know there aren't many vegetarians on this board, but for me there is nothing so disgusting as thinking you're eating plain old potato chips (and supposedly extra healthy ones at that) and finding out they've been soaked in the juices of dead bodies. Much like that bull**** with McDonalds new "vegetable oil" french fry recipe, which also turned out to contain the juices of dead bodies. I never joined the lawsuit on that, but I just barely avoided throwing a cinderblock through their windows.
Like BJ says, the bags say chicken fat, and BJ's comments inspired me to conveniently check them on my next trip to a convenience store. But my thoroughness wasn't enough to buy them and scan the ingredient lists...lol So I searched google to give BJ an article similar in disgust to his disgust. Really quite easy with good google skills...that was a top hit. or are you talking about my thoroughness to try lighting fritos on fire. hehe
I am betting they have partially hydrogenated oils--worse than saturated fat. I think pork rinds with neither hydrogenated oils nor refined carbos are healthier to eat for most people than Baked Lays. Not that either of the above are "healthy"--and I guess both are better than regular Lays loaded with about the worst combo possible--plenty of saturated fat, hydrogenated unsaturated fats and refined carbos, but people should not just eat Baked Lays and think they are doing so for health reasons. A snack of jerky (beef, salmon, turkey, soy-fake) and nuts (or pork rinds if a chip like food is a must) will be healthier than Baked Lays for most people.
