this post makes zero sense. so you want him to be productive... so he can be traded?

i don't get why everyone's so anxious for bagwell to prove he can't play. this team needs offense. badly. if bagwell can be a .270/25/90 guy... the astros are a better team for it.

What's the 'probative' value of stating that some people who use steroids have injuries? That doesn't prove anything. There are many people who gain muscle mass through working fanatically without using steroids. Some of those people have injuries. None of those injuries are related to steroid use. Many athletes bulk up when the get to the professional level: their bodies mature, they have better facilities, training, and strength coaching. Basing a conclusion of steroid use on weight gain and injury is far from convincing.
If you want to say its 'possible' that he used steroids then that doesn't seem to be out of order. But Sam needs to calm down with the overblown ego for a minute and spare us the  and attitude.

Check my sig. As stated earlier, if Berkman gets hurt running down a ball in the outfield because Bagwell is on first, all my good will for Bags is gone. I think he is being totally selfish, but he (and many others) feel he has the "right" to be selfish in this case. The chances of him hitting anything close to .270/25/90 is between slim and none, and slim left. It's time for a new chapter in Astros history, without Bagwell.

I'm convinced that when it ends badly between longtime players and their teams, 90% of the time it's mostly the players fault.

Personally, I am rooting for him to come back and play well.

Also, if Bags was on roids earlier in his career, it doesn't affect my opinion of him one iota.

Alot of people have misconceptions about what steroids can and cannot do and some people are just naive when it comes to sports stars on juice. It's not the magic that so many people make it out to be. If he was on the juice he was not affecting anyone but himself and you don't get any results at all unless you bust your ass in the gym.

He is the man and always will be. Good luck Bags.

Somehow I don't think Berkman is gonna blame Bags if he blows out a knee playing the outfield. And I'm willing to bet all the players on that team think he deserves the chance to prove he can play.

That said, I'd trust Garner to put the best players out there on opening day, and even if Bagwell proves he can play, I'm betting on him not starting.

A video of Baggy batting and throwing the ball from spring training. Also an interview.

isn't that what he hit during his last full season?

hitting has never been bagwell's problem; it's throwing. if he can make his throws, 25/80-90 in this line-up is not out of the question, and much needed.

I'm not sure either way with regards to Bagwell, but you do know that once we got Berkman back to full strength, we were 5th in the league in runs, right? I think with a healthy Berkman all season and the addition of Preston Wilson, our offense will be fine.

Hopefully AE will hit for a better average this year as well. I didn't realize all the family stuff he was going through last season.

That's ridiculous. If Bagwell is healthy enough and productive enough to play and replace Willy Taveras or Jason Lane or whoever they would sit to move Berkman from first to the outfield, then you play Bagwell. That's an easy decision. If Bagwell is NOT healthy enough or NOT productive enough to make that replacement and he is out on the field anyway, then that is the MANAGER'S fault, and Bagwell can't be blamed for wanting to play and playing when given the chance. To decide that Bagwell is to blame for what is ultimately Scrap Iron's call is just silly.

but that kind of underscores the point - we're an injury, or off year (morgan ensberg) from being anemic.

i just don't understand the furor over bagwell. its not our money, so let's find out if he can play, and if so, we're that much better off.

It was filed...I don't think anyone, including McClane, knows whether it will be payed by the insurance company or not, yet. My guess is not.

I'm assuming you're talking about Adam Everett. Not sure the nickname AE has caught on. What family problems?

Only player with those initials on the team.

After he got over the pneumonia thing in early June, he found out his 6 month old daugher had a spinal tumor, required surgery, might be paralyzed, might die. That sort of thing. She's fine now.

I agree with you on Bagwell - nothing good happens out of him being unhealthy. If he's healthy, we're that much better.

But on the first point - isn't that the case for any team? If you take the best player out of anyone's lineup (except the Yankees), I think their offense will stink or at least be mediocre.

What Buck mentioned. There was an article about it in the Chron yesterday.
