Yes, that's pretty ironic. What is Mutombo then?

Get over the Gasol trade already.

I've heard a lot about Memphis giving away Gasol. But Gasol has been on the market since he started to complain last year. I think in the past when Gasol's name came up the general consensus was Gasol was soft, played no defense and was overpaid. Many people didn't want him on the team period. Gasol was on the trading block last season and all summer. His market value is not very high to begin with plus he was unhappy. It was just the Lakers who had that big enough expiring contract that no more other team had, stepped up and took a chance on Gasol. And Memphis just couldn't get anything better than that.

But Miller is a different case. You said why not trading Miller before Gasol. Because Miller has a much smaller contract and is all professional about playing in Memphis. So they are not desperate at trading Miller at all unless a good offer comes around. Because by trading away Gasol, they already have enough room to sign a max free agent or damn close. How much more room do you need? How many max type free agents do you think they are going to convince to come into that situation?

I doubt Memphis will just give away Miller.

Nobody wants to trade you ten dollar bill for five ones.
If we want Miller, we'll need to give them something they would like.

    Total bologna.

Any contender would have sent Memphis trash, one rookie, and a couple picks for Pao.

MEMPHIS HAD BETTER OFFERS FROM CHICAGO BEFORE THEY TRADED PAO TO THE LAKERS.

Actually it is YOU who are wrong.

Chicago refused to resign PJ Brown as an expiring contract for the exact same reason nobody else really wanted to trade for Gasol...the luxury tax.

Do you think the Rockets would have given expiring contracts for Gasol and pay $13+ million in tax for Gasol?

Gasol was shopped extensively for over 2 months. When the Grizzlies had gotten crap offers they were going to keep him until this summer but then Gasol started faking a back injury, so they traded him to clear his contract.

Care to fill us in on what these were? I know people were upset with the trade, but I don't remember any GM's coming out and saying "Hey! I offered such and such...what gives?"

Just because the Rox wouldn't have done it doesn't mean that there weren't teams that would have not have done it BECAUSE THERE ARE PLENTY OF TEAMS ALREADY PAYING THE LUXURY TAX! Besides that, if the Rox had $13 million in expirings to give and they had a hole at PF and they could get a guy like Pao, I think they would have considered it like other teams did.

I guess Nocioni, Noah, and other Chicago talent and multiple first round draft picks was a crap offer? No, it wasn't expirings. Paxson kept offering them talent. They could have then traded Mike Miller very easily for another pick or two and expirings.

If you think there were not better offers on the table for Gasol, you are fooling yourself. Even the other coaches and GMs in the NBA protested. They knew among themselves there were better deals on the table for Memphis.

    Mr Buttocks,

NO GM IS GOING TO COME OUT AND SAY WHO THEY OFFERED IN TRADE. They are not foolish like some fans are.

OK suppouse that they couldn´t, yet they should have been able to get one (at least one) of the lakers rotation guards (radmanovic, vujacic) instead of jaravis crittenton or at least unload one of their bad contracts.

The deal was not even good for menphis and had NO DOWNSIDE to LA, i would have been more beliveable if the lakers added a good player for a bad memphis contract to at least make the trade have some sense.

This trade is more doubted when you see that the high price they are now putting on miller, you are either rebuilding or you are not, Memphis declined a deal owith the Spurs that would have sent Elson and Barry 9 millions combined in expirings, for Miller.

Chicago didn´t negotiate seriously with memphis because the grizz demanded Deng to be included in the deal yet they allow the lakers to part with no useful piece.
