I don't find these reasons convincing. As it was originally conveyed, the trade would be #6 and Randolph for #14, 2012 Knicks pick, and a throw-in player (not Brooks or Hill but someone like Budinger as speculation).

With everyone's high opinion of Budinger, he seems to have morphed into the target of this trade instead of the throw-in. But, going from the report, some other body with the right contract could do for the throw-in. So, lets take him out of the equation.

Likewise, Randolph is characterized as being unloaded for his personality problems. This seems absurd because very little money is owed to him. If they just want to unload him, they can cut him, so lets take him out of the equation too.

So, now we #6 for #14 and a future pick (which is top-5 protected). Now, if the Knicks are bad still after the '10-'11 and '11-'12 seasons, and pick #6 (it doesn't get better than that), the GSW pick up the #14 pick to defer their #6 pick. Not too bad. That might justify the delay in talent-infusion from #6. Maybe even if that Knicks pick is #7 or maybe #8. But, given that it is 2 years away and that there is significant risk that the pick is much worse, you can't really justify this swap.

So, lets bring Budinger back. Maybe he is a target who was unjustly characterized as a throw-in. Is he worth more than Randolph? Enough more to also justify trading down? Randolph might be unstable, but he's a young player (20, while Bud is 22), and he plays for GS. So, teams besides the Rockets could think he could prosper in a different environment with mentorship. Plus, people think highly of his 'tools', thus his high draft slot. And, finally, he's a 6'10" power forward while Bud is a 6'7" SF. Teams pay for size. If, say, both Budinger and Randolph were traded for draft picks, who would net the higher pick today? Could Budinger really get a pick that is 8 places higher than Randolph (minus a little for that 2012 pick)?

Comparing Budinger with Wafer is silly. Bud is equal to or better than Wafer in every aspect.

I don't know anything about an NBA TV report, but Anthony Randolph has the same agent as Yao and they have been begging GS to trade him to Houston for some time. In terms of Chase vs Randolph, keep in mind that Randolph is a full year YOUNGER than Budinger. I'm not sure GS would want Bud over Hill. Hill is the guy that every NBA team is drooling over. The Knicks are really going to regret moving him unless they strike it rich in FA. Nelson tried to make Randolph a center. I think he's more like Lamar Odom. He does a little bit of everything depending on who else is on the floor. They guy has received virtually no coaching for 2 years. I know some people that worked with him his 1 year at LSU and they said there wasn't an attitude problem at all. The kid is just young.

I'd like to take a shot at Randolph, he's better than anyone we can get at 14 and is only 20 years old.

    Get-r-Dun.

Would rather keep Bud though, Ariza can go!

Chase Budinger does not have the mentality to be much more than he is now. He will always be a solid roleplayer, but that is it. That was the knock in college, and that is still the knock today. He does not have the attitude, nor the kill-mode mentality needed to develop into a star.

Hell, He is not even playing his favorite sport. His heart is in volleyball, basketball is his job. At best, we have a Wally Z/Mike Miller type. Wally Z was completely dominant in college, while Chase was perfectly content in being a roleplayer every year at Zona.

Let's face it, Chase Budinger improved ZERO at Arizona...

His Freshman year he was averaging 16-6-2.

His Junior year he was averaging 18-6-3.

    With nearly 300 more minutes.

The reason CBud went in the second round, is because he has peaked, essentially.

That said, he is an excellent player to have and I love his game.

"The agent for Anthony Randolph said Monday that his client has been working out diligently since the end of the season and has gained 25 pounds.

Bill Duffy said that Randolph now weighs 235 pounds, thanks to individual workouts in Dallas with Kyle Meadows, who also trains Toronto star Chris Bosh.

“He’s been working his butt off,” Duffy said. “He’s got some serious muscle in his upper body right now.”

Officially, Randolph was listed at 6-foot-11, 225 pounds at the beginning of 2009, although most believe he was closer to 210 or 215 pounds."

And some people blow a player's potential way out of proportion. A select few (one poster comes to mind) take it to the next level by making their own video and youtubing it out of proportion....

Yeah, why would fans want to talk about the Rockets...sheesh....

I mean getting excited about a team's players....man that is just absurd !!!!

We should all be Rocket fans just like you want us to be Ill....you have the power !!!!!

LOL - come on man.....nothing wrong with liking certain players....I enjoy intelligent basketball, and particularly guys who move without the ball....it is my favorite style to watch.

I used to love watching Peja in Sacremento, and Ray Allen in Boston, and Reggie Miller in Indiana...

Chase moves like that and it really puts the pressure on opposing defenses, if you lose that, we lose a very important piece, and if you watch the NBA, those players are fairly rare these days.

agree 100% about randolph and the player comparison. a better rebounder and shotblocker, but not as good of a passer or scorer. that situation in gs is poison. i think he would flourish in positive environment like houston.

It takes two to tango.. And that might not be enough for the Warriors to trade the 6th+A 20year old PF/C.

I have a question, considering Randolph wants to cash in next year, could we do something like this?:

Tell Randolph+Warriors that in order to make the trade they must extend him one more year to a contract a bit bigger than the rookie one.

I agree he doesnt have a "killer instinct".. CBud went through 3 different coaches at Zona, give him some credit..
Like I have said before if Chase declared for the draft after his freshman year, he would have been a lottery pick. After his sophmore year, he would have been a 1st rounder.

You're not getting the difference here. You're comparing bud and Randolphs FA as if both were equal talents, but they're not, like you pointed out. Sure, butoh will get interest from other teams, but are teams going to go higher and longer for Randolph or Bud? They're very likely to overpay for Randolph, where Bud will get just about is value or maybe sligthly above, which is easier to commit to and match.

Randolphs contract wont be superstar huge since he's coming off a rookie contract, but it'll still be significant. However, i think the bigger question is will he be content in whatver role is avilable here? A guy like Bud can always find a role on a team, there's always room for someone like him and most teams can give him the PT and touches he deserves, but randolph would likely need a lot more. I'm not sure Houston will have that available then and Randolph may not be happy here.

And im not against trading Bud, but i have to agree with DD that it's not often you find a sharpshooter who can jump out of the gym. i know his % this year were not sharpshooter level, but it was due to great games, followed by a bad game, great game, etc......seems like it was a confidence issue, not a talent issue. He's not as fluid as Ray Allen, but he's a similar talent. I wouldnt give him away just yet unless there was a clear replacement already within their grasp.

A pure guess, that has no basis, other than your opinion.

Someone could easily say he will be an all star and have the same weight in what you just said.

Again, no evidence, pure guessing, just because he doesn't yell and scream does not mean he wanted to be a role player, is Ray Allen a role player, is Reggie Miller?

His game fits in better with the NBA, 300 minutes spread over an entire season in college is what 7 minutes more per game...come on...

I am NOT saying he will be all world but to say this is all he will ever be, after his rookie year when he is 21 years old is flat out stupid.
