I wouldn't give the #6 pick for Chris Bosh if you held a gun to my head.

    1. You don't think chinese fans knows who battier or budinger are? Are you kidding me? You need to frequent this site more often.

    2. It's not just about jerseys being worn. It's about tickets being bought, ads, t-shirts, etc. There's a lot of different directions from which the team can gain revenue. A lot of them fans arent even aware of them.

    3. The point the poster is making is that a large portion of the guys spending money are corporate types, a lot of them white, or even if they aren't white, they aren't the thug wannabes, which means they're not likely to support a team they cant identify with.

    4. True hoops fans will always be there, always willing to spend when possible. As a businessman Les has to find ways to attract those who arent hoopheads, but have cash to spend. To do that you need players who can be marketed. I'm not saying that's all that matters, but it's beneficial to him to have players who can play AND also bring in the casual fans. Scola for example has brought in a lot of latino fans, which is huge. Battier also seems to attract a lot of fans because of his nice guy persona. Women seem to love him and brooks, who they probably see as "cute" because he's small. Just look at facebook, a lot of women join their pages, but not Yao's.

We're a diverse city, it only makes sense to have a diverse product to maximize money made.

I get what you're saying, and knowing you watched Arizona bball closely makes everything you're saying more understandable. You seem like you're coming at this from the perspective of someone who was burned by him, honestly. Which is fine, and I get why you wouldn't believe in him in that case.

But given the difference in how he improved in just a year in the pros vs. what he did in college, I think immaturity is something you could easily point to. Not in being stupid and getting in trouble with the law and all...but we were all 18 at some point--everyone wasn't all about working hard and putting in their best effort. But a lot of the people figured that stuff out.. some at 20, some at 22, some at 30. I'd say the NBA (and being drafted in the 2nd round, knowing you're on the bubble for staying in the league longterm) can force a kid to grow up in a hurry.

I don't believe he'll be as good as Ray Allen--the comparison is silly anyway because Ray was a playmaker as well as a scorer at his peak, and Chase will never be a handler/distributor. I don't think he'll be THE go-to scorer on a team. But I think he can be that guy for stretches in a game with other players taking up attention. I don't think Peja had a killer instinct, but he was a great scorer, moved well off the ball, and finished well around the basket (even with limited athleticism). I think Chase could be closer to Peja than to Ray.. but Peja was more of a go-to guy than Chase will probably ever be.

Pretty much why I think he's an ideal 6th man for a great team.

Very interesting view, I have to agree on the point you are making.
I remembered that Les was unhappy about the defensive grinding style basketball Rockets was playing a couple years ago, hence, JVG was fired and Adelman is here to play some Princeton. It's all about business indeed.

The Dream was a soccer player first, basketball player second. You be the judge. ;)

I say get it done, he is the type of player we need, long and athletic. Although the funny thing is remember when he dunked on Yao a couple times, I wonder if they would give each other a hard time? Man he could be like our Lamar Odom, bring him off the bench to make us look huge like the Lakers, oh the possibilities.

Ok I'm sorry but this is the 2nd or 3rd time I have seen you criticize Budinger's 'killer instinct' (which is an amorphous quality at best, exemplified by Kobe right now I guess), but it doesn't seem like we were watching the same player last year. What I saw out of him, to me it looked like 'killer instinct' was one of his most prominent qualities.

Maybe it means different things to different people. Can you elaborate a bit as to why you say this? I am wondering what it is you see that I don't.

Now would be a good time to cut out the racial comparisons because not only do they not make any sense whatsoever, but also they don't help the conversation. The fact is, Randolph as a player currently is a better player than Bud. IMO, Bud will hit his ceiling a lot sooner than Randolph, not because of his age, but because he has had in his 2 seasons good success on a bad team. In the next 2 seasons, Randolph would be a starter on the Rockets and Bud will still be a role player(a damn good one). J. Taylor can be used to replace Bud's scoring. As a matter of fact, Jermaine with better defense > C. Bud.

Would you guys please stop comparing good players like Randolph with pieces of trash like Stromile Swift. It's insulting! Randolph was better than a professional Stro while still being in high school.

I am not sure what your intent is but I don't want a career in TV, they honestly do not pay enough until you get to the top jobs....

I love what I do in the video game space.

As for the "look at me" that is not why I do the videos, I do them because people say they enjoy them, if they stopped enjoying them, I would stop.

If you don't like them, that's ok, you can't please everyone....maybe you should step up and try to do it, and see how people react to you.

It is a mythical object that people want to create to play him down.

Does he have it or not? Who really has it?

Can we get Vince Young on here, because he clearly has it.

    :)

Getting Randolph to back-up Scola would immediately cancel out Bosh. So i say screw Bosh! You may lose C. Bud, but you still have the core team together. Now add the #6 pick with Brad Miller for MLE and you have your contenders for the 2010-2011 championship. The only tricky part to this would be who to pick at #6. If Cousins doesn't fall then i say Greg Monroe.

LOLOL, yes, the "killer instinct" card.
Since you value the killer instinct so much, let's see which players you would not take on your team:
Lebron, this guys just melted down in his biggest games of his life, nope.
DHoward, another melted down boy, nope.
Yao, of course not, this guy is from China, they don't allow murder there right?
Chris Bosh? Did this guy ever do anything that makes he belong in the "killer instinct" talk?

You have a pretty high standard, bro. I just don't see Houston get a player fits your requirement soon. Unless Rockets can convince OJ Simpson comes out of retirement to play for them. But hey, you can always lower your standard to player like Anthony Randolph who pump his chest when he dunks, make angry look when he blocks, and call THAT the "killer instinct", right?

Very true. It is almost impossible to tell on the maturity front, exactly how much he has or hasn't developed. I truly believe that Houston has the best "basketball development" enviroment in the league right now, so Bud is in a great situation.

I think we should gather as many "potential" guys as possible, because I think that we have built a perfect enviroment conducive to player development. I think a guy like a Anthony Randolph, or a Michael Beasley/Demarcus Cousins type, could really find their way in Houston, as opposed to other NBA franchises/cities. Yao/Scola/Battier/Chuck/Kyle/Aaron just work so damn hard, and you just know that guys like Chase, Jordan and JT will make it in this league. I just get that feeling.

(X Player) might become a MONSTER in such an enviroment.

Or be a bust like Dorsey.

Sometimes dumb players, or players with crap attitudes never get it, in fact, I would hazard to say that happens more often than the other way around.

I would not mind a high risk/high reward player on the team......

Just one though....two can wreck a squad, your mentioning of Beasley too....YUCK....that guy is example primarious of a player with skills getting killed by their poor attitude and work ethos.

No offense but I don't think this is true at all. First of all, Marc Stein works for ESPN not NBATV/Turner Sports. ESPN doesn't allow their employees to be on competitors like NBATV. I have been watching NBATV the last few days and nothing but finals talk and old games.

"killer instinct", You are right about Howard and Bosh, they do not have much killer instinct. Let talk the rockets players. Lowry has it, Scola has it, Yao has it sometimes, AB has it sometimes too. All others likely do not have it, that is just from me.

Budinger is a great second round pick and a fine shooter off the bench. However, his value to some on this forum is way too high. His defense is very suspect, his handles are overrated and he isn't going to start on this team(a backcourt of brooks, martin, and budinger would be the worst defensive backcourt in the league). I'm even a Chase fan, but I wouldn't hesitate to move him for better players. Mike Miller and Anthony Morrow are both free agents you could replace chase with(even if you think chase is better, these guys are more than fine replacements).
