So tonight I went to a high school basketball game at the school which i will be coaching at next year as an assisstant. It was a district tournament game, hard fought first half. I was sitting at the very top of the bleachers video taping the game with a parent from the other school video taping the game. As the game progressed, my team began to pull away and the father taping the game next to me began yelling at my future players. At first, I allowed it to slide, but he soon began cursing at players and calling for his son to undercut them. i told him he needed to show some class and stop cursing. He then stated he would throw me down the bleachers. i chuckled it off but he continued to curse at my kids. I'm friends with the cops at the school so i just called one over, told him the situation, and had the guy escorted out of the game. I mean cmon, its one thing to cheer, but cursing and yelling at high school kids is rediculous!

Reminds me of Will Ferrel's SNL "get on the bag!" skit.

So no one else said a thing? The dad sounds like a coward, I mean, undercutting???? Geez guy, this is a high school game!

It's not just high school games. I've had parents like that with as young as 4th graders I have coached.

The sad thing was those parents were just as hard on their own kids as they were the opposing teams kids.

Thankfully, we can tell them now if they don't behave themselves their kid can be kicked off the team and reported to the school.

We haven't had any problems since.

I think he was clearly trying to show that he loves his son more than other fathers love their sons.

lol ya ya. And yes, I do realize this is happening starting at a much younger age. The moment kids start sports parents begin to fight yell scream and its absurd. Teaching your child to be competetive is one thing, but the rest is rediculous. Just really frustrating listening to parents sometimes at any type of sporting event.

I feel sorry for his son.

You handled it the right way.

Man, this reminds me of my playing days in the YMCA league back in Middle School. I'm at the free throw line about to shoot free throws and as I'm about to release my shot, one of the opposing player's Dad yells out some weird, "AHH!" noise and I miss. He does it on the second one too, and I missed that one also. Now, I don't really think that it effected me but it's the fact that he actually did that. I mean damn, I was just a kid. Totally unexpected.
