My office is on the top floor of my building. We have a hawk that uses the roof right above my window as his perch. He swoops in low right towards me at the window...then quickly swoops up to sit on the roof. It impresses me every single time.

we have woodpeckers and cardinals in our backyard. everytime we hear the woodpecker i go take a look at it. my son asked if we could keep it. :) i told him he could keep it as long as he booed everytime a cardinal landed in our backyard.

This hawk is either a sharp-shinned hawk or a cooper's hawk.
They are smaller than a red tail and tend to feed on doves in backyards.
They have the ability to swoop among bushes.

I see hawks daily on Beltway 8, SW side. They are everywhere. I see tons by NASA too. I was going to start a thread about it recently. Weird.

    Followup:

I emailed the photos to the Houston Audobon Society to ask what the species was. According to the sanctuary manager there the hawk is a Sharp-shinned hawk (Accipiter striatus)

Also had Painted Buntings a couple of years ago...anyone ever see one of those?

    Harvey Birdman, Attorney at law!

Otto, you should buy a bunch of mice and just let them run loose in your yard.
