The closest comparable to Dorsey is Ben Wallace, in terms of physical stature and skill set. I expect hat Dorsey will get a lot of minutes at backup C next year, if things works out.
They say Mike Harris is a 3/4. But there is no way Harris can defend an elite 3 for being lack of quickness and height. And Mike Harris doesnt have a SF's game. Harris doesnt belong in NBA.
I have to agree with many on the BBS that, despite being only 6'7.5", Joey Dorsey projects to be a center at the NBA level. Dorsey has almost EXACTLY the same measurements as Ben Wallace. People forget that Wallace is only 6'8". But his long arms and brute strength have allowed him to excel for the majority of his career as a center. An All-Star center. NBA GMs have finally realized that height is not the most important measurement of an NBA player. It is wingspan, standing reach and vertical. These measurements indicate how much area a player can cover, primarily on defense. You could have a taller player with short arms and a long neck who actually comes out "smaller" than a shorter player with a longer wingspan and standing reach. Back to Dorsey, who has a wingspan of 7'2", a standing reach of 8'11", a vertical leap of 33", and a no-step vertical of 27.5". Those are center-caliber numbers that beat out almost every other center on the draft board. This also does not take into account that fact that, like Chuck Hayes, Dorsey is ridiculously strong for his size and has a lower center of gravity that prevents bigger players from moving him off the block on defense. Bottom line: Joey Dorsey is an NBA center. He's a backup and a little undersized, to be sure, just not nearly as much so as others on this BBS make him out to be.
dorsey's strength and athleticism make up for his lack of height. he also has long arms. anyways, there arent many offensive centers in the league and dorsey is only gonna play 10-15 minutes a game max
Wow...just wow. I mean really, you take the 3 things (strength, rebounding and defense) that let Chuck Hayes have a job in this league and then you go on and say that a rookie 2nd rounder who hasn't played a game in the summer league is much better than him at those 3 areas already. Your stupidity astounds me. The only thing you can safely say he has on Chuck is athleticism. And when will people give up this 'people can shoot over him' 'argument', it's old and, as Chuck has showed, irrelevant. With that said, he does have the potential to be better than Chuck pretty quickly and that would mean that Chuck is a goner.
I like Diop if we can get him to come to Houston. Then we could actually play a twin towers double high post offense. That would give the rest of the NBA fits. Imagine Diop and Yao out there together with T-Mac on the wing.
Nope, the rumors up here are running hot and heavy that he'll be back playing for the Dallas "Cubans".
Tis true we do have 5 players that are called Power Forwards, but only 2 are true power forwards. That is Scola and Landry! The others are wanna be's. That's why nobaody wants them. If u don't know who they are then i'll give u a hint........Nov?? and Hay?? The new kid is a question mark also!
I think more than a backup C we are looking for a Insurance C to play some minutes, Francisco Elson fits that mold and will be available for cheap change. (the guy who backed up Oberto for SA) He is not a beast but knows how to rotate on defense and how to move around the basket, more than enough for the role we want for him.
