where to play? Grizzlies or Rockets? what you play for? lose or win? money or championship? Yao needs to do a little recruiting work here.
wheres the link for hamed wanting to sign with rox or grizzlies ive only seen stuff about him wanting to come to memphis. and on a video it says hes signed with the heat i dont think thats true because i checked the miami herald and that was the guys proof. i think hes ok for a backup i hope we can convince him, we do have a good irani population in houston
There is a far bigger Iranian community in Houston than Memphis. That could also sway Hadadi's decision.
Hamed Hadadi hits out at NBA legal counsel Tehran Times Sports Desk TEHRAN -- Iranian iconic basketball player Hamed Hadadi on Monday hit out at NBA legal counsel over its recent remarks that he is not allowed to join American teams. “It has come to our attention that representatives of Hamed Hadadi, an Iranian basketball player, may be contacting NBA teams to discuss the possibility of signing Mr. Hadadi to an NBA player contract. We have been advised that a federal statute prohibits a person or organization in the United States from engaging in business dealings with Iranian nationals.” Yahoo Sports quoted NBA legal counsel as saying on Sunday. Hadadi said, “I will undoubtedly join Memphis Grizzlies by the end of next week. I met Memphis’ officials yesterday to discuss joining the team.” According to NBA rules, foreign players have to legally wait for their work permit and it takes time, he added. “I received many offers from European teams but just playing in the NBA is my dream. Hopefully, I can join Memphis as soon as possible without any problem.” 7-foot-2 Iranian Olympian Hamed Hadadi said. http://www.tehrantimes.com/index_View.asp?code=175647
I was thinking the same thing. Would he be getting the same kind of contract like Scola's. Maybe the rest goes to Landry or a sign and trade with Memphis involving Luther Head. Then have Deke as an assistant type of player coach.
How about Hamed Hadadi? He looked pretty good at the olympics, crazy stats but his conditioning is pretty bad.
According to isna irans news agency, the rockets have either met him and he's agent or have had some sort of contacts with him. also the i'm gonna sign with memphis is an old quoet. he's probaly changed he's mind. at the time only memphis had showed any interest. now the raptors have offerd him a contract. then there is us and apprantly two other western conference teams talking to he's agent. having said that,in memphis he'll get alot of minutes. he's allready much better then both marc gasol and darko.
Wait, I thought that Stern prohibited any franchise from initiating contract talk due to diplomacy issue with Iran.
The nba is acting on he's behalf. they filled some applications and the state department granted him a working visa. with the amount of iranians in the united states means more money for stern and whomever team that signs ehdadi. they also will get a potentially dominante center.
Are you sure about that? Marc Gasol was MVP of a very good Spanish league. Darko has his problems, but at least has multiple years of NBA experience. I doubt a guy jumping straight from a rather low-level league is "already much better" than Gasol and Darko.
From what i've seen at the olympics. he's offensive gamje is much better then those two. they maybe better defensive player. but ehdadi has alot more offensive game and potential.
Hadadi will be terrible offensively (unless he learns a few things from Yao and Scola) BUT he is a amazing rebounder and seems nice defensively, which is all we need. We have enough offensive minded players, Hadadi just needs to play 8-13 minutes. We suck at rebounding anyways so he would be a nice pickup.
I read Hadadi is a bit of a head case. In 2005 he supposedly smashed a window after a game and did damage to his hand which took him a year to recover from. This article is supposed to be about that incident but it's in iranian. http://www.tebyan.net/Sports/News/SportsNewsYear1383/2004/11/21/9334.html This next article is from several months ago. It's originally from the FIBA site but I can't seem to find that original article. It's an interview with Iran's head coach Rajko Toroman: http://www.iransportspress.com/news/48/ARTICLE/5685/2008-05-19.html

No Mutumbo or Landry news still??? Surely there must be some on the horizon. The Olympics are done now, so I hope we hear something on both fronts within the next week. I really don't think Morey has placed a premium on a backup C. I'm not even sure if he's thought "What if Deke doesn't sign on". There is nothing worthwhile available on the free market, so if anything our (young athletic backup) would have to come via trade - which is Morey's forte. Still wondering what we could land for a package including Luther.
