Theo Ratliff would be a good choice for 15 mins a night. PJ Brown would also. Elson is cheap as is guys like Kandi,Magloire, and even a D-Leaguer like Jelani McCoy or Chris Alexander. I think they should get a guy who can start and one guy who can fill. I've been thinking Boone for a while, but since Kristic is gone and Lopez is a rookie, they might hold on too him. I think they should go elson and ratlif. Both can play center and pf. Theo is the shotblocker and elson is Geico like he used to say in denver. I know people really like Dorsey, but for a team eyeing a ring, I don't think you want a undersized rookie being that important. We saw landry getting nudged under the hoop in cruchtime in the playoffs last year.
I think he's just referring to the free agents! Sean is in the 'too hard' basket! Let's push Philly for Jason Smith! They at least (reportedly) have interest in one of our players (Novak) - let's get it done!!
They're both out of reach for the Rockets. 76ers gave up a 2nd round pick and $3 million cash when they swapped 1st picks to get Smith last year.
By the way, Elson sounds very good, but we'd have to clear a roster spot to get him unless we're not signing Mutombo, which I really don't want to see happen.
i dont think sean would be too hard to get now that the nets he yi n stromile swift maybe luther might be enought
From what I've read Deke is not willing to come back for the veteran's minimum. Meaning he wants more money. I doubt we sign him for more than that. I really think that David Harrison from Indy could do a good job for us at C. He works hard on the boards, even though he plays with a board-hog in Foster , he plays exceptional D, and he can take some minuets away from Dorsey and keep him at 4. My other choice would be Jason Smith. Pretty good player. Question is Steven Hunter still around he could be a good back up for Yao.
Hey, why not invite Jackie Butler to camp and see how he pans out at center. I mean, why bother going out and paying another center when we are already paying one not to play for us. Bottom line is that we will never be able to make any kind of trade or signing that can make up for Yao should he go down. The team would have to adjust with guys like Dorsey and Chuck playing the 5. Having Barry on the team helps us with Rafer because we don't have to rely on Brooks and Steve. I just don't see us making a trade with anyone significant to bring in a solid backup for either postion. Morey is going to dump Novak for a draft pick next year to make up for trading ours for Artest and that's about it. RA runs with only 8-9 guys so I think you see what team is on the floor right now at least until the All-Star break. T-Mac, Artest, Yao, Alston, Scola, Battier, Barry, and Landry and Deke if they sign. Other than that you may see some combo of Steve, Brooks, and Chuck some nights. That's it. We don't really have the trade chips anymore to make a significant move.
I agree, Elson is the best free agent big man available. Morey should really push to get him but I would be satisfied with Theo. Swift sucks but he came in as a project anyway. I like the idea of getting Powell.
I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that if we bring Jackie to training camp, we have to pay him again? (a new deal - I guess it could be non-guaranteed?) I would've thought that if we had any interest in big Jackie we might have brought him in last season (instead of Woods) OR at least had a look in Summer League this year?
backup C is not really an issue, we won 13 in a row when Yao went down without a legit C, we didnt get killed in PO at that position either. Now we added Dorsey it's more than enough even Yao goes out for a few games, worst case senario there are quite a few vet C in the free market can be at your service at any time.
True - but bringing in that Elton Brand guy and having Mareese Speights fall into their laps this season may just mean that Smith is a little more available?
True - but then again Loren Woods was given a roster spot to basically sit there and drink Sprite 'just in case'... If he was the 'best vet available' then I'd be happier making some sort of deal right now!
Francisco Elson Juwan Howard Walter Herrmann. More of a SF, re-signed with Detroit. Magloire Doleac Theo Ratliff Foyle. Signed with Orlando. Harrison. Too "green". Robert Swift. OKC's qualifying offer is $3.6M.
Dmorey have mention that he will seat down with Mutombo after the olympic game. Morey knows that mutumbo can fill in behind Yao and can trhow his 80 yr old body to any player in the league. Mutombo plays a vital roll that Morey likes and that is his competitiveness.
