You indulged her??? Apparently you don't know (things will never be the same) this. Not to be harsh on you in a tough situation, but CW, you have to let it all go. Don't agree to see her. Don't agree to drive her somewhere (somehow I have a feeling this has or will happen). Don't even talk to her. Cut all ties with her, otherwise you WILL just drag this out and cause yourself more pain. Gotta agree with FFB here. The drama and the emotional crap isn't worth it unless you've 111% put it all behind you.

I wasted a good ten minutes finding this post, but it stuck with me when I first read it a few years ago, and I think it's worth reading. For the record, you can replace a lot of the "asian" anecdotes in the following with numerous other cultures - the point still rings true. And it's still terribly poignant. Some of it is, IMO, a bit too harsh on the babyboomer mothers. But not by much, honestly.
Excellent. Thanks for that. I'm a western man, have dated many western women and almost married one. Went to China for business and fell in love with how selfless the asian women I dated were. And their selflessness made me want to treat them as kindly as I possibly could. No egos, no attitudes, no trying to 1 up each other. I couldn't believe it. Then I met my Russian GF and now I'm hooked. I'll never date domestically again. My eyes have been opened.
That's a great post and exactly how my wife and I are. Being with my wife has been a life changing event. I seriously couldn't imagine what my life would be like had I never met her.
The irony, of course, is that despite posting that I am happily married to an American woman. From louisiana though. So it's really like a whole different country.
It was just amazing to me how my attitude changed once I found a woman who didn't come at me from the get go with attitude/demands.
