The Civil Rights Museum is basically now a part of the Lorraine Motel where MLK was shot. You can see the balcony where he was gunned down from ground level. They have a couple of old cars parked in front of it like they were the day it happened. It's kind of commercialized inside like everything else in the world nowadays, but there's a lot of info and displays. If you really stop and look at everything or listen to the audio and watch the video there, it would probably take you a good couple of hours to get through there, I think. But like I said, I stopped and read everything, and I doubt most people will do that. For me, it was pretty incredible and emotional to watch, listen and read a lot of the stuff in there.

It could be Dyer's, but I heard of some restaurant that just dunks the whole burger in grease before serving it... and they've been using the same grease for over 100 years..

    Man I wanna eat there!!

Just to offer a differing opinion: I, for one, loved Rendezvous.

My friend and I stopped to eat there while on a road trip for lunch a couple years ago. They aren't officially open during the afternoon, but if you call, they'll tell you when to come and you'll get served the standard rib plate--nothing else. Given these circumstances, I didn't even remotely get the tourist-trap vibe since the place was dead empty save for us and a table of some ladies on their lunch break. I guess eating amongst the hordes of out-of-towners can really affect one's perception.

Anyway, the food... it was excellent. My friend and I are both uhh let's say bbq enthusiasts but not bbq connoisseurs. We've had our share of TX BBQ in Houston, Austinish and elsewhere, and we really enjoyed the ribs at Rendezvous. That said, I haven't eaten anywhere else in Memphis, so I can't say it's the best or most representative of Memphis BBQ or whatever... but it's still definitely good on its own.

Wow, haven't been back to Memphis in awhile. What's that one burger joint where you can shoot toothpicks in the ceiling? Is that Huey's?

    That's it.

I agree with what others have said, Rendezvous and Corky's are overrated. I haven't been to Memphis since the Rockets game last year and I really haven't eaten there in a much longer time than that.

I do remember Man v. Food went to Memphis and tried the following restaurants:

    Rendezvous for BBQ

    Gus's for fried chicken

    Arcade for breakfast

Kooky Canuck for the challenge (a really big burger I remember)
