Nash IMO is the best PG in the league still.

I have to go with Paul. He actually rebounds about as well as Rondo does, and though he's not as strong a defender, he's considerably better on the offensive end. He puts up comparable assist numbers to Nash with fewer turnovers, despite that fact that he plays in a much, much slower offensive system (and he's a better defender/rebounder).

I think he and Deron Williams are 1), 1a)

At first I thought b/r was basketball-reference and thought it would be legit but found out it was bleacherreport. The analysis is very shallow and uses very irrelevant statistics. He takes EFF, which is weighed r****dedly to begin with, then arbitrarily weighs it with his own r****ded system. I hate analyses like this. It's so lazy.

I beg to differ. He has one major shortcoming.

    He's a Utah Jazz.

Sure he gets steals is a little misleading, don't you think? He led the league in steals for two seasons and has a 2.4 career steals per game average. That would put him somewhere around 4th on the all time per game average.

His man to man defense is, I think, also better than you give him credit for. Consider that in today's NBA it is basically impossible to be a great man to man defender at the PG position, relative to players of the past. Seriously, who is a great man to man defender at the point? Deron is probably a little better at this, and I'd put Rondo up there, too, but ultimately, when there are so many great PGs, and the rules favor allowing those PGs to dribble penetrate at will, being active with your hands and getting a lot of steals is that much more important.

CP3, when healthy, I think is definitely (almost indisputably) the best point. Before this year (not healthy), he led the league the prior 2 years in assists and steals. He does dominate the ball a bit, but then that Hornets style isn't exactly the fastest paced and all great PGs by virtue of being great and being a PG, dominate the ball. And then, on top of that, he averaged 4-5 boards a game and over 21 ppg, on 50%ish shooting, solid 3 point shooting and solid FT shooting.

Deron, for example, while potentially a better man defender, in similar minutes, averages fewer assists, fewer points, fewer rebounds, fewer steals, more turnovers while generally shooting a worse percentage from the field and from 3.

What about coming up with a Top 5 in defense. Turnovers is key too.

I think Rajon Rondo is as good now as Gary Payton was in his prime. To me, that makes him better than Deron Williams or Steve Nash (at least now). Rondo was also better than Chris Paul this year, but if Chris Paul comes back fully healthy next year, he might regain the top spot again.

That being said, the group of Rondo, Williams, Paul, Rose, and (probably) Wall will end up the best group of point guards we have ever seen. It is the golden age for point guards right now.

Not really; it's more like the steroid era in baseball where the NBA rulebook = the juice for point guards.

    That's a pretty poor analogy.

I'm not sure I can put Rose into that category yet, but it is amazing how many great PGs there seems to be in the NBA today. Also interesting to note that most teams can't win with their PG as their best offensive player.

    Deron Williams
    Chris Paul
    Nash
    Rondo
    Kidd

its a toss up any1 u can win a championship with, but I'll take Rondo over any PG I jus luv his game, Im a defensive minded player with pretty dam good offense (streetball) and I can relate the most with Rondo

I don;t mean their style of play, they literally play SG, Benu Udrith plays PG for the Kings and Stephen Curry plays PG for GS

I agree, he does not belong in the same group as Williams, Rondo, Paul, etc

Man I agree. Rondo's the best all-around PG in the league right now.

Does no one else think that Rondo's complete inability to shoot the ball is a major shortcoming in his game?

And I'm surprised no one's mentioned Russell Westbrook...
