That doesn't mean those pills are a good solution by any means. It's like getting some **** on your hand, and deciding to cut your hand off as the solution, instead of just washing it or wiping it off.
Vyvanse is amphetamine (like in Adderall) but the molecule is attached to an amino acid, IIRC lysine. The body has to rip away the lysine before it can be used by the body as amphetamine. Because this takes time, and there is a limit to how much can be metabolized at any point, it basically makes the amphetamine work in a "time release" form, and one that is pretty secure from tampering. But it is still, fundamentally, amphetamine. The entire Oxycontin explosion happened because doctors were convinced by Purdue Pharma marketing that "time released" made it so safe that you didn't have to worry about addiction. That didn't really work out too well. Doctors need to keep a healthy respect for the addictive potential there.
Btw they already have amphetamine derivatives for weight loss, so I'm a bit surprised at the outrage all of a sudden .
If heroes like Mark McGwire, ARod, Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds can use them, why shouldn't common people also be allowed to benefit from these supplements?
Obesity is a far bigger problem. If you want to go after prescriptions go afters opioids. I wish more people were taking amphetamines. They might pay attention to what they are doing and not be Amerifats. Obesity-related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer. According to the National Institutes of Health, obesity and overweight together are the second leading cause of preventable death in the United States, close behind tobacco use (3). An estimated 300,000 deaths per year are due to the obesity epidemic (57).
You know that amphetamines destroy hearts, and heart disease is the leading cause of death for both men and women, right? That's 610,000 people to your 300k. That plus kidney disease induced by amphetamines, and stroke from hypertension induced by amphetamines...
It's perfectly possible to eat to the point of physical discomfort, outpacing yourself by ignoring satiety based on some kind endorphin rush. I guess the question is whether calories matter more than volume, cuz then it takes alot of fat guys (like me) who just make crappy choices but never rupture an esophagus off the hook.
Jesus man... I know all about the problems obesity brings. I am in no way saying obesity isn't a SERIOUS health issue, because it absolutely is. You fix obesity and MANY problems with diet, exercise and adopting a healthy life style, it's not like the only options are - A. take pills OR B. your stuck being obese.
Obesity is a social construct create by white-male-protestant privilege. http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/databriefs/db219.pdf
Everyone I know who takes adderall and vyvanse are some of the most unhealthy people I know. They're also useless without the drug. Boggles my mind more people don't see the link between our excessive sugar consumption and attention/focus issues. Just create more chemical dependencies, that's what we need.
