mike james was alright with us during his first stay around. No one knew the 2nd time around he was going to be horrible
Asian- We're not discussing slow starts, what this is about isa 37 yr old sharpshooter that can't shoot. I think he'll get his stroke back, but barry is too small and slow to defend 2/3 guys in the league. He's never been known as a tough player, he could defend anyone and the spur upgraded with a younger, stronger, more atheletic player in mason jr. If he's playingmore than 12 mins on your team, the team is probably struggling.
He's almost strictly a 3 point shooter at this point in his career, so there's extra pressure on him to knock them down. That means that when he's in a slump, it's going to weigh on him every time he's got an open look. He also doesn't get the benefit of making a layup or two early in the game to work himself in. The flip side of that is once he gets in a groove, he'll be seen as the automatic "can't miss" sharpshooter and he'll have tons of confidence. It'll happen.
For someone who has been in the league for a long time and on a veterans team there shouldn't be pressure to knock down wide open 3's. Especially someone who is very good at it. For people who don't understand ,the real reason he is missing is because he has a wrist injury.
regarding the TC "Depth Perception" issue, check out his nba.com profile picture <img src="http://www.nba.com/media/act_brent_barry.jpg"> lol
QFT. Spoken like a true player. Actually, we may not be discussing slow starts as a main point but it's a point that needs to be made. We're starting slow because Yao and Mac are not fully healthy, Shane Battier hasn't played a single game and Ron is trying to fit in and adjust. This leads to a slow start and it has a trickle down effect on a player like Brent Barry. Let me explain: The team is struggling indeed which is why he's playing more than 12 mins on our team just like you mentioned. Unfortunately, those minutes that Barry is getting should be going to either Head or Wafer. I think Rick is finally starting to recognize this. The problem is Barry was not brought in to be a major contributor in the regular season let alone play a major role this early in the regular season. He was brought in for 2 things. Playoff experience and veteran leadership. Barry's biggest impact will be made in the final 1/4 of the season and in the playoffs. If you or anybody else thinks that he was brought in to be a major contributor and perform well for the whole stretch of an 82 game season you were sorely mistaken.
No one is immune to the slumping and streaking of NBA shooting, and most of the time the really bad stretches are primarily mental. Yes, Barry has an injured wrist, but only since last week. His shooting woes go further back than that.
They sure do. Thats why in my orginal post I said it can't just be becuase of the injury he was off before the wrist issue too. I know he'll bounce back but untell then we should have Head coming off the bench and seeing what he can add to our team.
You don't lose that shot. It's off right now, but its gold. Just give him some time. As someone else mentioned, his leadership and experience are gonna come in handy as well. Season's been weird so far, but I have a feeling he's gonna turn it on with the rest of them.
The comparison isn't exactly true. Robert Horry cruised and was overall a below-average PF who made his name with a few high-profile 3's in the playoffs. Barry has been a statistically above-average SG over the last two seasons (individually and off of box score stats, his adjusted +/- has basically broken even due to defensive deficiencies) and among the league-leaders in TS%. Barry should be a boost to our offense, if he lived up to the standards he set in San Antonio. He has just completely lost his shot since joining the Rockets.
Brent Barry is coasting right now until post-season starts. He knows he only has so many shots left in that golden arm of his. Yup, he is coasting. He must be.....
Brent was doing poorly even before the injury. Expectations of most people on this board were too high IMO. I feel he will get better with time, but offensive outbursts and high assist games will be rare from him. He had only 1 great playoff game. The rest of his performances were poor during the playoffs.
isn't the sheer idea of bringing in head instead of barry just a sign of how poorly barry has been playing (even before the injury) yea the guy (head) is a liability as a ball handler and gives up size on most of the people he is guarding (which should be our slogan this year by the way) but regardless of the reason Barry has been terrible on both ends. Why not put in Head now and if he struggles fine let barry shoot his way out, but the reason we got barry was for the playoffs when luther does an Houston Oilers choke job.
