Lol, wow, SirCharlesFan. Strong statement there. The NBA would be completely destroyed if something similar happened, though. America loves baseball in a way that they don't love basketball for whatever reason. It is completely ludicrous, but it is reality. Maybe more of America can relate to baseball because it has a larger caucasian player base than basketball. I've always thought that played a part in why, but it is not the only reason.
it seems to me half the baseball players coming up can't speak english, I don't relate to that. As far as the sport goes it in trouble because folks are gonna stop thinking it's legit
Very true, but the ratio of caucasian players compared to the NBA, is very weighted towards baseball. More than that, the ratio of superstar caucasian players in baseball compared to basketball is even more heavily weighted towards baseball. Football is in the same category as baseball by the way. I really don't want to make it a black and white thing, but I truely believe it plays a part in the love affair with baseball. It isn't the entire reason obviously, but it plays some small part at the least.
As far as most Texans that I know that prefer baseball to basketball, they prefer football to baseball. Yes, there are some that like baseball because it is played by a just a bunch of "white guys", but there are some that don't like baseball because it is played by a bunch of "white guys". I think it comes down to what you played as a kid a lot of times as to what you watch as an adult. I played baseball and football as my parents did before me. I love baseball and football. Basketball, while enjoyable, just isn't the same to me. I think white parents are more likely to teach their kids the love of football and baseball because it is what they did as kids. I think black parents are more likely to teach their kids football and basketball.
Well, if you hear that they are banning HGH, wouldn't you conveniently stop receiving shipments as well?
In my name for sure. Just have them delivered to your cousin or something. Baseball is dead to me. My life would not change at all if MLB folded tomorrow and was never replaced.
And by the way, there's only one guy who ever went from pitching to power hitting, and he did it on hot dogs and beer...
Baseball is terrible. The sport remains popular because it's the only place where fat ass middle aged men can still watch other fat ass middle aged men "dominate" their "sport."
Wait a minute, wasn't he playing during the prohibition? He shouldn't have been drinking, and I think that his records are tainted as well.
Unless it's the Astros, I wouldn't be caught dead watching a baseball game on TV. Not even the WS. And this year, I could probably count the number of Astro games I've watched on one hand. I've been to 3 or 4 in person this year, but that's because I got cheap tickets and I enjoy drinking those $8 beers...
So a guy uses performance enhancing drugs before they were banned...unless I'm missing something he didn't do anything wrong. If he's still on something then ok. And I honestly really don't give a **** about this whole steroid craze. It's just a witch hunt, nothing more. Athletes in every sport are always going to find ways to get a leg up on the competition. What happens in baseball is not the exception, it's the norm. You'd be crazy if you didn't think that at least some football players are on something. Hell the NFL just suspended Rodney Harrison for using HGH and that didn't seem to get nearly the attention that it does in MLB.
That is exactly my point. Regardless of the reason that caucasian people don't relate to basketball, it's there. I'm black and most blacks I talk to don't have much to say about baseball, while most caucasians I talk to don't have much to say about Basketball. Keep in mind it is a generalization and in no way reflects every black or caucasian person, though. Like you feel about basketball, is the exact same way I feel about baseball. I enjoy it and go to about 5 games a year or so, but it in no way will ever be close to basketball in terms of enjoyment. I grew up playing basketball, although my parents could care less about any type of sports. Baseball and football were barely on my radar until my early teens, but by then I absolutely loved watching and playing basketball. In any case, we can all agree on one thing, we both love football. I don't personally love football at all, but in general every race loves football
Even baseball's "feel good" stories end up with the guy taking steroids If it wasn't for my undying love for the Astros...well, as NAS would say (and I paraphrase) "If baseball was to die before I wake up, I would go into every skybox and murder the GMs"
