    Additional fees for ConnectHertz

    −Connect card reissued

    $20 to issue a Connect card replacement.

    −Phone reservation

    $3.50 per call to change or cancel a reservation.

    −Fuel below ¼ tank

    $25 for returning vehicle with ¼ tank or less at the end of the reservation.

    −Ignition key replacement

    $200 for losing or taking an ignition key. Keys can cost upward of $200 to replace. If you take or lose the key, be prepared to pay the full cost.

    −Fuel card replacement

    $50 if a member takes or loses a fuel card.

    −Car documents replacement (e.g., registration, insurance, etc.)

    Actual replacement cost plus an administrative fee of $20.

    −Late return

    $50 charge if a member returns a vehicle late.

    −Processing fee-tickets/violations

    $20 fee will be charged for tickets and violations that have not been resolved on time.

    −Incorrect parking

    $45 fee if the vehicle is not parked in its home parking location at the end of the reservation.

    −Vehicle cleaning

    $45 additional fee can be incurred for cleaning services.

    −Additional Mileage Fee

    45 cents per mile (after the first 180 miles) per 24 hour period that you keep the vehicle

    The cool thing about ZipCars is that your usage includes gas, insurance and all that. From people who use it, I understand it's pretty easy to pick up and book cars. And there's parking at the drop off sites.

    There's definitely a sweet spot in terms of whether it makes financial sense. You have to use it a fair bit...in small doses...but not too much for the fees to work. And scheduling is key. For me, because of where I live, cabs and the occasional rental car are much much cheaper and more convenient.

    And the cars are plastered with goofy 'ZipCar' stickers. Which is pretty nerdy, (though not as nerdy as using the word 'nerdy.').
