Kasperksy is definitely better than norton and symantec. Its probably 3rd only to NOD32 and Bitdefender, but thats debatable. It's definately right up there with them. The best thing about kaspersky is daily updated signatures
unless your browsing is restricted to just clutchfans.net (even then, i'm not sure if it's safe) i'm willing to bet you do have a virus and probably hundreds of adware on your system.
If you're smart about browsing, downloading, etc., and run decent firewalls, you can get away without having Anti-Virus. I've done it for years before, and had no problems. However, as a security person, I'd say that it's a good idea to run something for AV, but more importantly for host-based firewall. That's one of the things I love about Kaspersky -- it has a very comprehensive host-based firewall, and it detects all sorts of attempts by programs to access your registry, etc. Then you can approve/deny each one individually. It's basically a host-based IPS, which is awesome.
Everyone always says that Norton is a resource hog. Does that mean it slows my computer down and if I switch to something else like AVG, Kaspersky, Avast!... will I notice a difference?
Norton is the Antichrist. I learned very early on (back in the days of using a Mac) that using Norton ANYTHING is an absolute no-no.
Yes, it means it slows the comp down. And yes, the difference might be noticeable switching to something else. I use NOD32, hardly even know its there
I still use AVG 7.1. They extended the deadline another month. 7.5 supports Vista while 7.1 doesn't. I haven't tried Kapersky in a long time. If you share files with a p2p network and you have a broadband connection, then you're always vulnerable to a worm. A good firewall greatly reduces the chances, but the antivirus scanner protects the rest. Free online virus scans help, but they're reactive and not preventative.
Im on NOD32 aswell. Its fine, as you said hardly notice it. Every now and again it pops up to advise you its automatically upgraded to the latest version. Also got 'Spyware Guard' which seems to do nothing!!
If anyone is still looking for something free, you can use Computer Associates antivirus free for 1 year - The Link.
now you're just being ridiculous. not only will the thread not get that big, how difficult is it to post a link? I hate it when people do things like this. most posters wouldn't have even went as far as you initially did and simply put up the link on the spot.
