Another thing I noticed that Avery does against us is when ever the match up favors us like when Bonzi was posing up Harris he flopped the refs called it and instead of an easy two we get a TO. I'm not saying we should flop too, but at least be aware they are going to try and sell contact.

Also, if Deke is in the game Avery is smart enough to attack the rim and get him in foul trouble. He knows we are dead meat on the boards without Deke. He does the same thing against Ming to get him in foul trouble and out of the game.

On the other end what do we do against Dampier and Diop settle for jump shots instead of forcing the refs to blow the whistle. We need guys like Mac, Synder, and Wells who have the size to finish to drive to the basket against their shot blockers and forced the same foul trouble situation on the Mavs.

This is our biggest problem vs the Mavs, IMO. Jeff needs to be the one pushing the issue.

the problem is that the rockets dont really have the personnel to create mistmatches.

lets face it, the rockets only outmatch other teams in 2 areas...sg/sf(where-ever tmac plays) and center.

with the rockets team as is, the mavs have the advantage. what are the rockets going to do to really make dallas adjust? exactly. nothing.

avery is a smart guy and a solid coach, but lets not overlook what he is working with and that he has a dam good coach (actually like 4) holding his hand on the sidelines

    totally....I mean..come on...
we were playing against the best team in the league without Yaoming, and it still went down to the last second.
this is bad coaching? no, this is great coaching...

Just imagnie what JVG could do with Yao back, or better yet, give him an extra 20million dollor to play with...

Rudy's X and O's weren't that complicated. On offense throw it in the post to Hakeem; they basically had to triple him. Either Hakeem attacks basket or throws it back out. On defense, let the guards drive to the whole, and hakeem would swat anything in the viscinity of the basket. Main thing Rudy did well is that he didn't interefere/disrupt the game. I don't think he made game changing decisions tho. Its kind of like Mack Brown having Vince Young ,if you follow college football.

I was just thinking that, when we play the Mavs in the future, we need to go directly at Dirk, no matter who he is guarding. Last night showed me that all this MVP talk is really hiding his defensive defiencies. Juwan was doing him in, then Tracy, then Luther, even Shane.

Once we get Yao back, there will be no one that Dirk can stop effectively. If we go at him then we'll be forcing the issue, making them either double or have to go into a zone defense. I don't know what the end result of this would be, but it would be nice to dictate what the Mavs do, for once.

Face it, it is not about the xs and os.

Mavs just have a deeper more versatile roster. Croshere rides the pine for them and he dropped 34 when he had to play.

It is the benefit of having the ability to spend way over the lux tax limit.

Things might change with the return of Yao. Rox have more superstars, but Mavs still got more quality depth.

great insight... I am not saying Rudy wasn't a good coach, just talking about him from an X and O's standpoint. In terms of the way he related to players, and encouraged them, he was amazing. That's what I thought made him the coach we know him for.
