Happened for Decades . . . .esp with minority coaches [NFL is a far worse offender] It is nothing new . . . . Rocket River
Avery Johnson is a Great Coach in my humble opinion. Nets are a perfect choice for him. 1. He coached Devin Harris before. 2. An owner willing to spend luxury tax money 3. #3 pick in this year's draft (they will get an impact player with this pick) 4. Team is moving to Brooklyn, NY 5. Already has a good core of players (Brook Lopez, Devin Harris, Courtney Lee, Douglas-Roberts etc).
If the Nets draft Cousins, it will be interesting to see. Will Cousins turn off Johnson as soon as he opens his mouth and start screaming?
Dwayne Casey would have been perfect. The guy knows how to get the best out of his roster. I remember he kept that terrible t-wolves teams at 0.500 then when he got fired they became instant lottery team.
I'd say they should get Cousins even if he's extremely risky and they manage to get Chris Bosh. Lopez is already a solid player, but he's not gonna get it done long term. Sometimes you have to roll d dice even if the odds are against you. Bosh, Cousins and Harris make a hell of a core.
They were favored because Avery pushed that team to success they haven't had before, but should have with the talent they had before Avery took over. Yeah players are the ones who have to go out and perform, but the coach takes care of the finer details and the game plan. It's the difference between winning on talent alone which usually won't get you far and winning on talent and doing your homework. Plus players need to believe in what their coach is saying, especially the superstars. Otherwise that coach might as well be talking to the wall, and teams that don't listen to their coach are teams that don't win.
I like it because they have some good young talent and cap room. I wouldnt spend that money unless i got lebron. I would just keep drafting and developing the young talent and add young talent.
