Yeah, live there...not necessarily the economical way to go, but in looking at nearby apartments it just seems prices are pretty high. And I prefer all the action that takes place there, so it's worth it for me to spend a few hundred more than surrounding places.

To answer the other questions, the complex isn't in rice village, but nearby on Kirby and westheimer. And the apartment was not furnished.

You may be able to get something for $1000 in rice village, but you may not be getting much with that. If you're on a budget, it's probably best to live outside the loop.

I didn't know Rice Village was so ****ing important. Who knew a Gap, a ****ty food truck, and people who drink beer but don't like it could turn an area into an "it" spot.

Upper Kirby is a nice area to live in. Close to everything. I guess that's the same as Rice Village? Probably not.

It could be construed that way, but I took Rice Village to mean Rice Village. Like, oh sweet, let's go smoke some hookah, dance, then sit outside in 104 degree weather to sip on some warm Summer Wit with Rice grad students - $2,300 rent for you!

If you want to live inside the loop for less than $1,000/month, there are a ton of 1-bedroom garage apartments for rent in The Heights. Despite the stigma, some are quite nice. Hardwood floors, granite countertops, new appliances, garage parking space, etc.

I lived in one 2 years before I bought my first house and LOVED it.

EDIT: this was 10 years ago, so prices may have gone up. But certainly nowhere near the $2,300 range.

I lived inside the loop for $525 a month 6 or 7 years ago. I know the complex is still there and isn't much more expensive. I never had a single issue. No one ever bothered me, utilities worked all the time, etc.

I live off Newcastle and 59 for $800 in a 1br. Yeah, its an old complex and ive had some issues with things. But its over 700sq feet and my commute to work is less than 5 min. Plus i'm saving $ and still living close to my girlfriend in the Heights, midtown/downtown and nightlife. There's mainly just older people and young professionals at my place so I feel pretty safe. So if you don't care about looking like a baller or impressing people then I recommend going a little "ghetto" if you live in the loop. Anything over $1,000 is really just throwing money away.

Yeah, I extended my least until next June...was planning on getting something this summer, but prices for homes are 30% higher than they were this time last year. There's just not enough inventory. I'll monitor and see how it goes with the housing here, but it's just not a good time to buy.

And I do want to stay inside the loop...and by inside the loop, Im talking about the area that has I-10 to the north, 59 to the south, 610 to the west, and Montrose to the east....that's the square that I want to stay in. Willing to buy a house outside of that area if it's a great deal that I cant pass up on.
