you dont cut a young kicker because he missed 2 50 y ard field goals. He missed the 46 yarder as well, but he's young. Its another game winner, and the time out. offisides fiasco. Now if he is still missing routinely by mid season I would bring someone in, however the kids got a serious boot. Most of those misses looked like they were long enough to go from 60ish.
You do cut a young kicker if he can't do his job, especially if he is on a contender. It doesn't matter if he has the distance to make from 60, if he doesn't have the accuracy. There are tons of good enough kickers out there waiting to be picked up who could have made those FGs.
The Kicker is not going anywhere. 1 bad game doesnt mean you get cut. Whats the point, money is guaranteed for the season anyway. Let the season unfold before we have this discussion
This is true. These guys are brought in to do ONE job and right now he hasn't been able to do it very well. You have to start looking at other options.
Say Kubiak gives him more rope, will he play any better knowing that he's one more miss from being cut? Maybe the kid has rushed, but not every player has an equal chance. Some have easier transitions than others, and some have more time to prepare than others. NFL happens.
You also don't NOT cut/bench a kicker just because he's young. Bring in Kickalicious, see what he has.
I never said they were going to cut him. I asked what kickers were available if they were to cut him. What if he continues to miss kicks? If he winds up not being able to do his job than they need to find someone who possibly can.
Are you saying he should be cut now, two games into his career? If not now, then how many more bad games until you do cut him. You say there are "tons" of good kickers waiting to be picked up. What players are you talking about. I'm not familiar with who is available, so please help me out.
They'll see how this game affects him. Will it get inside his head? Or will he bounce back? In the meantime, you can be sure they're checking their options, and will pull the trigger on the trapdoor that suddenly appeared beneath the young man's feet. Or is he standing on dropcloth? Here's hoping for all of us that he toughs it out.
Kickers don't have the luxury of having growing pains. They either do their job or they don't. They don't get many opportunities to fail before they're gone. Kickers win and lose games in the NFL. A team, especially a good one, can't waste time with a struggling kicker if there are better options available. The only thing saving Bullock right now is that the Texans invested a 5th round pick on him. If a street free agent had started the season 1/5, they'd already have other FA kickers coming to practice for tryouts this week. As it is, that may have only bought him a week. If he has another crappy game next week, they'll definitely start looking at other options.
Let's let him cost a playoff win before we have a serious discussion guys. Nows the time to win, if he can't handle the pressure Texans have to bring in an experienced kicker. It's the easiest thing to find
