That's an impossible statement. that is equivalent to: 1 + 1 = 3 Its easier being Rockets fan in Houston, you dont have to face off with the obnoxious Spurs and Mav fans!
for those anti-austinites or those who will live in htown til they melt, dont move to austin, i'm sick of you suckers raising my rent and buying all the new condos up here! go buy a house in stafford and take the metro park and ride to work or go say hi to bullard in the woodlands. keep austin yuppie free.
I got locked up in the pen and I met vernon maxwell who told me that he hated austin... i just thought i would pass that tidbit along
tinman, you may have answered this earlier (thread is too long and I'm lazy), did you grow up in Houston? If you did, I wonder why you do not have an attachment with the city. Austin is nice and pretty (unbiased opinion probably better than Houston) but to me Houston is home. It's weird how we don't pick where we grow up and when we grow up and have the opportunity to live anywhere we come back home.
Yeah I grew up in Htown. I wont come back. for the record, I did come back. I left UT and went to Htown to work for a big Oil Company. Just got sick of it, got tired of the oil/gas sector. Decided to go to austin to work for high tech. didnt like the work evironment in Houston either. too stuffy. wearing a business suit when its 200 degrees outside. Thats why they made the downtown tunnels, so we wont melt. People are just happier here. Its just a better quality of life. People are happy shopping in the grocery store. People arent worried about getting car jacked. Even the nightlife seems better. Houston seems like they want to be LA or NYC. What is so special about Red Door? Why do I have to wait in line in HOUSTON???!!! This isnt Vegas!! Also, traveling to many places opened up my eyes, that Htown wasnt the greatest place in the world. Of course, that has nothing to do with my loyalty to the Rockets. I met Dream and Calvin as a kid, and thats why im such a loyal fan. Maybe its the cleaner air or less humidity. I still go to Htown for the food and sporting events. Some towns just have better personalities. I went to Chicago and the bears fans are so hardcore, it was preseason, and they were staying at the game, whens its freaking freezing. Houston sports is just catering to rich businessmen/clients now. Maybe I'm just too old school, but I remember people holding "BEAT LA" signs and screaming in unison back in the day. That crap doesnt happen anymore.
That's your opinion. I like Houston... in fact I love it here. But I can still admit this city has it's problems. Why can't you admit the same about Austin. Like I said, I wasn't all that impressed when I went there. And you're gonna find fairweather fans wherever you go... I'm just damn proud Houston is home to three terrific pro sports franchises (Texans included they'll start winning soon). exactly. I imagine if I was born and raised in Austin my opinion would be reversed. But I wasn't. Houston's my home and I'm damn proud of that.
See I really don't think you're painting a fair picture of Houston. When you talk of Houston Sports catering to the elite, that's pretty much the Rockets, and I agree with you there. But you go to a Texans or Astros games, and you'll see some decent fans there that cheer. I was at MMP for all three home games of the NLCS and I swear I've never seen such an electric environment before in my life, it was unreal. The whole damn city jumped behind the team during October. And Houston has crime like any other city, but you act like if you walk down the street you're gonna get mugged 9 times out of 10 and that's simply not true. There are terrible parts in Houston riddled with crime. But there are other areas that are nice. And when I go out, unless I'm driving through a bad part of town, I'm not worrying about getting jacked. But that stuff can happen anywhere; from the biggest of cities to the smallest of towns. I don't think Houston is the greatest place in the world by any stretch of the imagination, but I would rather live here than any other place in Texas for a number of reasons. But hey that's just me. ...as you can tell I'm very defensive of my home.
im glad you are going to live in houston for the rest of your life. sure austin has problems, not on the same scale as Houston. I've lived in both cities and the majority in Houston (over 20years plus). So since I've lived in both A and B. I feel that the people who lived in A and B 's opinion are stronger. if you live in A and visited B, its not that strong of an argument. Im happy i made the move. But if you dont make the move thats great too. Like I said, if you are a big time oil/gas person and making $$$$ stay in Houston. If you work for Aramco, Shell, Exxon, Haliburton, Reliant.. stay in Houston. If you like spending your day at the Galleria. Stay in Houston. However, if you like film festivals, lakes, mountain biking, jogging, swimming in natural springs, college football, outdoor concerts, hills, clean air, move to Austin.
I take it you've never lived in Austin. If you poll people who have moved from Houston to Austin to see if they would move back to Houston, you wouldn't like the results. Even the greats, Kenny Smith moved out of Houston to LA. Dream moved to Jordan. Otis Thorpe to Round Rock (suburb of Austin). if you enjoy I-10, 610, 45, Highway 6. stay in Houston!
he was actually here at the dorms when he was playing at michigan. little did we know then he would be the highest paid PF of all time.
That would be a pretty biased poll because they moved from Houston to Austin (if they didn't like Austin better I'd imagine they'd end up moving back). I think it'd be more fair if you were to poll people who moved from Houston to Austin and then people who moved from Austin to Houston. Then you'll be getting somewhere. And doesn't Steve Francis still have a home here (oh but we're talking about the great ones ) Well T-Mac seems to enjoy it here. And I do believe many NBA players have offseason homes here. Austin is a pretty place and a great place to visit, but would I want to live there...eh probably not. I think I have a sore spot with regards to Austin from all the endless s**t I have to hear about how insanely great UT (and Austin) is, and this coming from people who don't even live nor go to school there; and how UH never gets any respect. That got old pretty damn fast when I was in school (at UH obviously).
Lets as Clutch what city he likes better Im not moving back to Houston cause all the NBA players have huge mansions in Sugarland! UH gets respect. Remember! Phi Slamma Jamma! TMac moved from Disneyland. I hope he likes it better in Houston. Like I said, if its a career move and you suddenly had to leave Htown for another city in Texas, what would that be? Dallas? San Antonio? El Paso? Corpus? Lubbock? or Austin...
Well when you put it like that...then uh, yeah Austin Screw Dallas, SA is fugly, and the rest are too small or in the remote parts of Texas. but then would I ever leave? I think I'd feel I would be abandoning my teams
