wow pimple, you're embarrassing yourself. FWIW, most of the people i've brought down to texas from places elsewhere have preferred houston to austin. austin has a great music scene in that it is organized and easy to navigate. otherwise, austin is an average city. my guess is that you haven't traveled much, which is fine, but to go on like austin is the greatest place on earth just shows your ignorance.

I've traveled many places , i'm sure when you're on the court, you travel alot.

I've mentioned that houston is great for big business people who dont care about hills or lakes.

I'm not trying to start some East Coast West Coast beef like you are.
When people who lived in Houston (not a bunch of vistors) and moved to Austin, they prefer not to move back to Houston. Thats from my list of people.

Its not my fault that you trying to bring disharmony to the hip hop here and you cant understand my complex lyrics like DAS EFX.

    You betta check yo self
    before you wreck yo self

I lived in Houston over 20 years and have lived in Austin about 7.

    What makes Austin better?

    1) Live music. Seriously. The local music scene in Houston is a joke. Especially for a city that size. When I've had conversastions w/ friends about the greatest bands ever from Houston, it is a pathetic list that we come up with.
    2) Outdoors - Like outdoors? avoid houston like the plague. When I lived in Houston, I'd drive to Austin to go swimming because everything anywhere near Houston is too polluted to swim in. Also, better camping, mountain biking, etc in and around Austin.
    3) Less humidity. This is HUGE. Though it's still too hot in Austin for my liking.
    4) Traffic
    5) College sports
    6) more real boobs (could be seen either way i suppose, but I like the real thing)
    7) Bars. Houston bar owners need to realize that fancy clothing and looks don't make people cool. Dress codes at bars are a joke.
    8) Air quality. Is Houston currently the title holder for lowest air quality or has LA taken that title back?
    9) A lot less people killing people in Austin.
    10) wider lanes on the highways
    11) The only hills you see in Houston are overpasses.

    What's better about Houston?

    1) Pro sports
    2) Museums (hands down. This is not close)
    3) I'm not positive, but I think it's still easier to find a reasonable place to live in Houston than Austin. Property values in central Austin have sky rocketed the last few years. However, if you plan to live central in either city, I believe both cities have the same issue.
    4) East Texas lakes are better for bass fishing.(Though not in Houston)
    5) Houston has 2 airports. At both of which you can get direct flights to many cities around the US. It's difficult to get non-stop flights to most cities in the US from Austin.

    What's similar?

Restaurants. At least I think. I was a broke ass college student when I last lived in Houston. Seems similar now. I go back to H-town a few times a year for Rockets/Astros/Texans games.

If you live near I-35 in Austin and have to commute to work during "normal" business hours. Traffic sucks. If not, it's pretty manageable compared to Houston.

It rarely snow in either city so it costs a lot of money to go snowboarding. My biggest regret living in Austin.

I've never been car jacked in Houston, but that's only because I tried to run over the guys that tried to car jack me. (They were lucky they were fast)

Thus far, no carjacking attempts on me Austin.

    Miss me
    I know you’ll miss me
I know you’ll miss me blind

    Chorus 1:
    I know you’ll miss me
    I know you’ll miss me
I know you’ll miss me blind

Bet you got a good gun
    Bet you know how
    To have some fun
    And then
You turn it around on me
    Because I’m better
Than the rest of the men

    Chorus 2:
    I say you’ll miss me
    And you always do
    I say you’ll miss me
Now would I lie to you

    Now there’s no need
    To demand
    Grab my golden hand
    I’ll teach you
    And you’ll never be sure
If the way that you need
    Is too much like greed
Decide if you are rich or you’re poor

    (chorus 1)

Bet you make the fool run
    Bet you know how
To make it last 4 ever
    But you know
    I’m never really sure
If you’re just kissing to be clever

    (chorus 2)

    Because this love
    That I have to give
Must be better than thet kind
    It can make you rich
    It can make you poor
    But I know that
    You’ll miss me blind

    (chorus 1)

Tinman, you're missing the point. I've lived in houston 20+ years and austin 10+ years. I prefer Austin so thats why I live here, others houston thats why they live there. There are things I miss about Houston, but Austin has more to outweigh that. Stop your tirade, you're embarrassing Austin (and Texas altogether)

I've traveled a lot and lived in Houston, Austin, New York (St), Colorado, and California. Austin, my home by choice, is not just 'average' and all you have to do is look at the many rankings that have been posted in this thread.

I think your friends were just trying to be polite. ;)

That said, I don't like the bad rap Houston has gotten over the years. I agree that it kinda sucked when I moved there in the late Sixties, but the city has matured quite nicely.

obviously you are too lazy to read the entire posts.

I mention many things about houston too. this is called Austin vs Houston, not Austin plus Houston.

I gave everyone here my story. I told everyone that i had the big office, apartment near the village etc and still wasnt happy. so that's my story. i got tired of living in htown for 20 years, tired of the traffic, tired of the humidity. tired of the clubs where people try to act like LA snobs.

The hills, lakes, better traffic (yes, better traffic -we had people in katy driving into downtown houston, you think they love that drive??), better air quality, and party atmosphere in austin was what i needed. also, yes, there are places where you can see live music no cover in austin. good bands. great festivals and local events.

look if you like the shopping, big skyscrappers, and especially if you dig working for oil/gas/retail, then houston has better opportunities for you. its got good restuarants too. but if you have the same job, same salary and you had to choose between htown and atown. I vouch for atown. thats it.

if consider this dissing, then i mentioned some great places for you to go in houston to clear your head of your mess,

gallery furniture to buy some nice sealy mattresses
    treasures, TMC, Colorado
any movie theater in houston since they are all massive
    Timmy Chans
    Frenchy's
    Lee's Sandwiches

cohen, i am in no way trying to bad-mouth houston or austin, i love them both. i will always be a texan, even if i choose not to live there. "average", i suppose is a subjective adjective in this case but i don't think either city is exceptional in a world full of great cities. new york city, on the other hand, whether you love it or hate it, cannot be considered an average city in any way shape or form. basically, i just got tired of reading pimples asinine commentary and should have just stayed out of the thread.

    gary,
this shows that you are a devoted tinman fan.

    Austin is exceptional:

SXSW is an international known festival for music and movies.
    http://2006.sxsw.com/

Austin City Limits Festival brings famous groups from all over the world to the city:

This guy is one of Houston's finest athletes, oh too bad the city doesnt want to draft one of their own sons.

You're so right, and obviously Houston isn't...

One of the greatest champions of our time...

Who helped lift this bunch to new heights...
    2005 NL Champions

    Then you got...
Who did it not once, but...

If you want universities you got...

Of course I'm sure you already knew all this since you're from here...Austin does boast a tradition of champions sure, but Houston has got ya beat there, simply because we got a larger pool of sports teams and athletes. If you're into sports, Houston is definitely the place to go between the two, unless you're just a fan of UT sports.

Houston is farther away from Dallas and San Antonio than Austin, so Houston wins

Did Lance Armstrong win all those Tour De France's for Austin? Hell no, he won them for himself. Besides Roger Clemens is a hometown boy (proof Houston produces championship team and athletes) and he did help the Astros to be NL Champions, which does in fact mean something in baseball (but let's not even go there). Houston didn't diss Nolan Ryan; an owner did...and last I checked he's back within the organization, so nice try. Seriously, the only hater in this thread is you man.

Vince Young wins a championship playing for a team from Austin
wants to go HOME TO HOUSTON
    but HOUSTON
    won't accept him.

    THEIR OWN SON.

We had to do a SAVE THE ROCKETS CAMPAIGN to keep the Rockets!!!
That doesnt happen to the Lakers or Celtics or even the crap Mavs!!
Great Job Htown (I would have cursed the city for enternity if they let the Rockets go)

Houston wont give CALVIN MURPHY HIS JOB BACK.
