    1. Whites and nonwhites... Isnt it more of having $ vs. not having it? It has nothing to do with race.

    2. Galveston...................... Barton Springs & Lake Travis > Galveston anyday. BTShip tx?? and San Jac?... Yes.. you should go on till you can convince me that there are more 'fun' things to do in Houston. Watching Rockets / Texans isnt really... FUN. More pathetic. I agree.. Houston got better museums though.

    4. You are right. But Austin's traffic isnt 10times worse than Houston now.. Isnt it?
    5. Yeah.. i think i misuderstood you over there. Austinites are just proud.

    6. Ok.. night life is ony consist of visitng movies huh? Try to find a place to go listen a live music after 12 in Houston. I am sure there are.. but i am sure there arent as many. How can you possibly say that night life is better in Houston.. Once again.. What can you possibly do in Houston after 12 that you cant do in Austin? Night life sux in Houston when it comes to electronic music as well.

    7. u dont have the fact to support urself. Beisde.. isnt that a good thing that there are more restaurant in Austin that allows pet? It's more dynamic.

I guess it really depends where you go. Im just used to not paying entrance fees for regular bar and clubs. Drinks are more expensive in Houston as well.. so is parking.

Agree on part 1.....Austin is generally higher priced.

On part 2.....that's a sign of old age! I am right there with ya too.

thats a good point. in austin its much easier to go "club-hopping" or see a few bands in some different clubs, as that whole scene is pretty centralized, while in houston its difficult to do that. i cant speak to the "club" scene so much, but if im going to see live music in houston, im pretty much staying at the club i go to. most places are not within walking distance of each other.

also, several houston clubs actually have dress codes or arbitrary b.s. like having lines infront of clubs that arent full, just to make it look popular. CHROME!!! (and people on here complain about austin being snooty). i always feel underdressed when i go out in houston. if austin is trying to be san fran, than houston is trying to be l.a. people really dress to impress there. i think austin is alot more laid back than houston in that respect.

theres good bands in both towns, but in austin the scene is just so watered down that it seems worse than it is. we have alot of really good, creative bands here, but they get lost amidst all the other stuff. i will say this though - there really is usually something music-wise worth seeing almost every night.

i grew up in houston and have been in austin for 11 years. i love austin and wouldnt want to live in houston again, but that doesnt mean i dont like houston...i do. in the last 10 years downtown houston has really become a great place to hang out. i actually caught my first astros game at minute maid last time i was in town - i was still bitter about not having the dome, but it really is a kick ass stadium! the toyota center is great too. i still love rudyards - i moved when i was 20 so i never went when i lived there, but i try to catch shows there a few times a year.

i think its funny that so many in this thread complain about austinites being elitist. if anything, i see it as more relaxed and slow paced. i think people here are generally friendlier too. i do think that people here talk up the city alot, but that might have more to do with actually liking the place you live rather than not liking other places.

with the opening of the blanton museum, i think austin finally has a quality art museum (sorry austin museum of art) to compete with some of houston's great museums. if you are in town i highly recommend it.

traffic sucks in austin, but everything is so close that time wise it still beats houston. to be honest, when i am in houston i never have traffic problems as long as i stay off i-10. our office is off beltway 8 and 45 and i stay in the kingwood area. 59 is great!

    i disagree. completely.

i used to commute from san marcos to downtown austin (7th and congress) and barring any major accidents that commute would take me 40 minutes tops.

all yall saying that austin traffic is just as bad or worse ( ) than houston traffic are lying, plain and simple.

Sorry bud, maybe my experiences on 35 were exceptions, rather than the rule.. but I've had many trips from downtown austin to san macros that were at least an hour and a half..

Also, dont forget that we're all speaking in relative terms. For me, the amount of traffic Austin has is pretty bad for its size, relative to Houston.

BTW... if you're ever in Austin and the Joe Richardson Express is playing (they play often at B.D. Rileys on 6th).... GO! the guy's an amaizin guitar player. SRV/Hendrix pyschidelic blues type.

Anyone know about the cost of living in Midtown Houston comparatively with the other parts? Examples?

    Good lord.

Every city is susceptible to a natural disaster, whether it be a hurricane, flooding, earthquake, or tornado.

Not living in a city due to a possible natural disaster is really irrational thinking.

But you said no flooding in Austin. You were very incorrect.

yeah, but houston is more susceptible to more natural disasters than austin.
    its geographically and historically proven.

i've been through MANY HTOWN floods. Happy to say, Austin has had no major natural disasters since i've lived here.
