nature spots: since Lake Travis is empty due to the drought, i guess Barton Springs Pool is your option.

food places: Fonda San Miguel is the best, and most uniquely-austin, restaurant in town. there's nothing else like it.

Mt. Bonnell: somewhat overrated, i think. however, it's not nearly as overrated as that craphole Oasis.

Make sure you have some $$$ if you go to Fonda San Miguel.

    ZTejas is good too.

West 6th street is good for the non coed crowd. Lots of stuff near Katz's.

W00T! The Don Juan is the best breakfast taco ever born.

My votes also go to Hyde Park Bar & Grill for dinner, and if you must do BBQ, then go to Tom Mueller's on Manor Rd. for lunch. Don't wait til dinner on the Q, or all the good stuff will be gone.

You should definitely check out Oil Can Harry's, the best bar in town.

I've only had Rudy's a couple of times, but both experiences were bad. Mueller's on Manor is great, but I believe it's closed down?

I so totally agree. I went to both places back in Christmas and was like... 'whatever'. Food at Oasis was so plain. Didn't make it for the 'spectacular' sunset so it was total darkness and crappy food.

    RuDy's is subpar at best.
RuBy's (29th and Guadalupe) is killer -- and has hormone-free beef!
    Mueller's is gone (unfortunately.)

like dsnow23 said in a previous post, Mann's BBQ (Ohlen Rd. and 183) is vastly underrated for real Texas BBQ...and they have the best selection of sides of all the BBQ in austin.

yes, Fonda San Miguel is a bit pricey (for Mexican food), but there really is no substitute. if you're looking for something unique to austin for your dining experience, this is the place to go. http://www.fondasanmiguel.com/

Mt. Bonnell is definitely the best spot to checkout the hills and the lake, you should definitely check that out. (If you're at Mt. Bonnell, check at County Line for BBQ).

Also, Barton Springs is a nice place to cool off.

As for food, I like Iron Works for BBQ and Trudy's for Mexican. Not a big fan of Rudy's, I don't think their sauce is that good. Iron Works or County Line has the best BBQ in AUstin.

I would say the Oasis even thought the food is blah. The weather is getting unbelievable nice and nothing beats the Oasis view. It's like going on vacation without going on vacation.

My second suggestion is the salt lick in Driftwood. It's about 7-10 degrees cooler out there and nothing beats the atmostphere. Its about 40 minutes from Downtown.
