i left today at 1pm and got to houston at 6pm

    here's how i went

    1)35 south
    2)71 toward lagrange
3)i-10 east for no longer than 10 minutes
4)eagle lake (fm102) exit take a right; go 15 miles to get to eagle lake
5)take the 90 alternate from there all the way down until the cops block it off and make you turn right on spur 10 for about 3 miles
6)took 59 north from there up until beltway 8 and got to clear lake

steps 4-6 are a GREAT alternative to i-10, i figure it saved me over 15+hours and the roads were all clear

Was I-10 still bad around 71?? I-10 around Katy doesn't seem that bad.

How's gas up there? You might consider buying and filling a can.

yea the 71/1-10 transition area was horrible, i moved about a mile every 30 minutes..i might have over exaggerated about the 15+ hours part since i only saw a little before and after i-10 but the way i took was GREAT

Essentially the mayor has stated only essential city personnel, transportation, fuel and food supply personnel should be expected to return to work immediately. So basically there's no real reason to expect a mad rush of people trying to get back to work on monday.

If anyone has any updates on 59 South...i.e. heading back from the Corpus area, let me know. I'm thinking of taking some back roads along the coast tomorrow, but will go 59 if traffic isn't bad. Thanks.

well im still here. I'll probably hang out tomorrow and watch football. I figure I cant watch football in Houston cause they will be showing Rita carnage all day. Maybe after the afternoon games I will attempt to come home.

    Keep posting updates.
Im thinking about going, dallas, Waco, College Station, 290.

    Thanks for the info.

I don't think that will be the case. I actually got to watch SNL on the NBC station here last night. Also, the Fox station was showing regular programmling in prime time last night. I didn't see ABC or CBS late last night so I don't know if they switched over or not. I'd be willing to be Fox and CBS will be showing the NFL games today.

Oh that direction was for folks in Dallas who want to avoid the I-45 traffic and potential bottle neck

My brother took this way to Dallas and he got there fairly quick'er' on Friday when folks were still struggling with 45.

I was very plaesed and surprised by the lack of traffic I entountered.

I live in Clear Lake. I left at Austin at 2:30 AM and got back to Houston at about 5:15 AM. I took 183 to 360 to BW 8 to 45.

Im most likely just going to stay here and watch football all day. Enjoy the weather and family just a tad bit more before heading back.

Keep it up with the updates guys.

    Thanks

Anyone know the freeway conditions? I finally found a guy here in Nacogdoches with power and cable but I'm having a hard time finding road conditions. I don't want to sit through traffic like before. I heard 59 is closed at Livingston. Anyone know what I-45 is like. I'm trying to get to Clear Lake.

    Thanks.

    Thanks Max!

We finally got cable back at the house I am staying currently. So I can check here often. I'm lost without Clutchfans!

But that Transstar is just showing people the return schedules.

This says that 59 South is closed and all that traffic is being thrown over to 45 South. http://www.dot.state.tx.us/txdotnews/039-2005.htm Two freeways into one? That makes me nervous. Anyone know current 45 South conditions?

Left Austin at about 1:30AM on Saturday night/Sunday morning and got into Houston around 5:30AM. I tried to stick to the side roads, but in my sleepy state I kept missing my turns and ended up back on 290. There was pretty much no traffic at all.
