It was a joke. Bucky is known more for his crude sense of humor than his insight into sports. This is a sad statement for a former coach with UT, but he has chosen to be more the funny man than a knowledgeable football insider... That is his choice and I do enjoy it on many occaisions b/c it is a morning show and his comments do keep listeners tuning in... Erin Hogan is more knowledgeable about sports. Today, Major Applewhite came on the show and they pretty much stated that the whole "war" was overblown by fans like me and was really just good natured ribbing between the morning and afternoon guys.

The morning guys don't get down on UT all the time... As someone who has listened for years, I can tell you that they I personally believe that they are very fair in their assessment of Texas athletics. Because we live in Austin (at least I and the callers who complain do), we take the shots they throw at UT a little more sensitively... If we were in Oklahoma (shudder the thought) we would get upset at all the shots they take at OU's pathetic offense... its all based on frame of reference...

There is one notable exception with which i will agree with morning show haters... that would be the postgame show after the A&M game a few seasons ago... after a resounding victory, the guys spent more time nitpicking about the small things that UT did wrong rather than focusing on the win itself... it a win over a heated rival, i thought that was in poor taste and an obvious ploy to rile up listeners, get more callers, and boost ratings.

I thought I would chime in on Bucky, I lost a little respect for him about a month or month and a half ago, some kid up in Round Rock got something like 99 years in prison for hitting this lady over the head with a brick as she checked her mail, and then carjacked her. Personally, I felt like, hey, if you dont wanna do the time, dont do the crime, but Bucky was all tore up about it.

This kid was apparently african american, and Bucky gets on the radio, basically crying for the kid, and outraged with the people and the city of Round Rock, I mean, he went on like this 20 minute tirate about how racist they were, and how he couldnt understand how they would do him that way, how he couldnt sleep last night, just on and on, and any caller that called in and had a different opinion than his, he would just blast, it was horrible.

I mean, I dont mind when these guys bring up current events and put a funny spin on it during the show, but, I didnt really wanna listen to them anymore cause of the way he was just going off on this subject, I mean, save that for some other talk show, not a sports related show, hi light the news and gimmee some sports, I didnt tune in to some round table for crybabies.

I heard that same show. I was pretty surprised at how upset he was... but Williamson County does have quite the reputation for racism.

I was just out of town for a week (snowboarding in CA!) and when I got back Bucky's show was cut short by 2 HOURS?! What's going on? Any of you Austinites know what the hell has happened to sports radio in this town? AM1300 is broadcasting some Fox Sports national program from 9-11 AM now?
    Sheesh...

He said he can't do a 5 hour show anymore without E. Hogan.

The station used to be so great. Then they got rid of Chad and Kevin and brought in the Ass Clown that is Greg Hensen. That douchebag was fired finally a few months ago but the afternoon show is still really lame. They got Greg's plain old partner and the update guy.

Rumor is that E. Hogan is going to 1530 as their program director and possibly to start a local morning show. Also, Bucky's contract is up next year and there is the possibility of him following Hogan to 1530.

    Here's a recent Statesman article....

It's been an interesting few months in Austin sports radio. Nothing has even begun to play out, yet.

the suicide of 1300 is interesting to watch. Henson was a complete disaster...how freakin stupid is 1300 to hire Henson as PD after he failed and was fired from their barely alive rival 1530. Now 1530 is getting strong, I thought they were dead a year ago.

Austin sports radio is in bad shape nowadays, hopefully 1530 will continue getting better with Erin in charge
