Find ways to make fun of him.....the rest of the year.

Hope they'll be good enough not to be in the high lottery.

One year with the Knicks.....it's a wasted year.

Austin accomplished much while a Rocket, not the least of which was to turn me from a hater into a fan.

Makes a lot of sense for Austin. He plays with scrubs and gets more showtime minutes. On a one-year deal, he's right back on the free-agent list (at the ripe age of 29) with more value and not stuck playing for garbage time minutes behind two former MVPs.

So he went from fake James Dolan to real James Dolan? ;)

He’ll be bought out at the deadline or next offseason

The last two years are team options? WTF would Austin sign a contract like that??

$10m reasons. and most of it is probably front loaded in the 1st year. It works out for both sides. He gets more money now and isn't locked in much longer so both sides can move on if necessary.

That's my point, though: Austin IS locked in, because they're team options. If he plays well in year 1 and demonstrates much higher value than the say, $2.0-2.5M or so he'll get in years 2 and 3--which is not out of the question on a sh!tty Knicks team--he can't capitalize on it.

I would think maybe it's the guarantee of $10M for his family, but probably only half that is guaranteed. I'm guessing they were the only offer he got, which is also weird. Who knows?

i wouldn't be surprised if there's some kind of mutual agreement that neither of them are "locked" in. The knicks are in a full youth development and I don't see him there for 3 years. trust me I was surprised too then I saw the money then it all made some sense. can't really blame him especially seeing all these other guys cash in. It won't be long til we look back at a lot of these contracts just signed and saying damn these are terrible

    Congrats, goodbye, and good luck.

Why are some guys so pissed at Rivers? He played hard for us, took less money to stay...it's because he said something he shouldn't have? Meh, nothing wrong with it.

Wasn't the Austin deal suppose to be front loaded as well? Seems like we could generate a larger TPE.

It doesnt appear so assuming th at you trust Sporltrac. They have his starting salary at $3.17m.

It's too bad, that we will get only a small TPE from it. I appreciate that you told me that it can carry into the next year, after the end of this season. Maybe a useful veteran might be available with it eg Jeff Green.

Rivers has made two cameo appearances in garbage time for a total of five minutes over the past nine games. Against Sacramento, he was the lone Knick not to get into the game.

Interestingly, after Taj Gibson sprained an ankle during Saturday’s game, Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau said president Leon Rose “will look into players that are available.’’ The Knicks could be in position to have to waive a player to sign a center.

Rivers was signed in November to a three-year deal, but only the first is guaranteed. He has played in 21 games.

I'd say we could use him here, because we do need a backup PG, but he's a mediocre passer and unreliable on offense and wouldn't solve any of our issues.

Front-loading isn’t allowed in the NBA like it is in the NFL. Decreasing salary is limited to 5%, and 8% if signed via Early or Full Bird (excluding SnTs, which are 5%).

Rivers signed with 5% decreasing each year.
