Street takeovers have been the dumbest thing to evolve in the car culture. People in their used g37's and 10year loan hellcats doing burnouts/donuts in the center of major streets. What happened to good ol street races
the response from APD and right wingers to this is pathetic. blaming the citizens and city council for them taking 40+ minutes to respond. ive been here almost 30 years and APD has always been unprofessional, but they are taking it to a new level the last few years. i heard an interview with the "spokesman" for the group. his name is like juan guapo or some b.s. he actually said that as taxpayers they feel they have the right to use the streets for this crap. he also said that the cop who was run off and had fireworks shot at them should have "stayed in his lane". its all on video. shouldnt be too hard to get the people responsible, but i bet the cops dont do anything. the vast majority are not even from austin. there was a large group of them who came in from the temple area. they met at the buckees up there before coming in town.

theres a pattern here and we see it on the local as well as the national level. cops in D.C. beat the crap out of peaceful protestors (and reporters) so trump could stand in front of a church holding a bible. but for the most part, they stood down on january 6th when confronted with a violent mob. obviously, the cops there were fighting with the trump insurrectionists, but its also obvious to me that if it was a group of "liberals" or BLM there would have been a lot more deaths that day. i doubt cops would have backed off like they did for the trumpers. i doubt the authorities would have held off on sending reinforcements if it was BLM storming the capitol and fighting with cops. cops in austin beat the crap out of peaceful protestors, shot bean bags at them, fractured a dudes jaw and caused permanent brain injury to another (us taxpayers are on the hook for $10million for that)...but back down when a bunch of fast and furious wanna-bes run them off. theres a saying about bullies, which is that they are quick to pick on people who dont fight back, but will back down if someone challenges them. are we not seeing that with cops?

I think this is a repost from page one of this thread from ~2 weeks ago. That said, this is why I half-jokingly tell my kids that anyone out after dark is up to no good and one of the reasons I have 4wd on both mine and my wife's vehicles.
