I am super-pumped about seeing the following: Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti Deakin Hatred Surge Kaki King Kylesa Man Man Os Mutantes Pharoahe Monch Snapcase Strike Anywhere The Briggs The Bronx The Casualties The Dwarves The Gories The Hold Steady The League Of Extraordinary Gz Yelle Just kidding, I've never heard of any of these bands.
the hold steady are awesome!!!! check 'em out! went up to dallas last month to see them and they put on a great show. outstanding lyrics. "in barlight, she looked alright, in daylight, she looked desperate, that's alright i was desperate too, i'm gettin' pretty sick of this interview..."
I don't think i'm indie enough, or maybe its because I didn't jump on the vampire/scenester bandwagon because these are the only bands I really want to see... Bad Religion Devo Gwar Slick Rick Suicidal Tendencies 100 + bucks damn, is the new motto keep Austin corporate?
i think a two day pass last year was $70, but they added a 3rd day this year and overall, the talent is much better than previous years. weird al and devo probably each command $40k-$50k per show. acl added the 3rd day and its kind of watered down - these guys are going for it so i dont mind paying a bit more. and its corporate, but not necessarily in a bad way - i have to say that funfunfun and even acl do a pretty good job of utilizing 'local' businesses for their concessions. i never thought i would get to see os mutantes or weird al! polvo will be really cool - i saw them about 15 years ago. and dirty projectors! probably my favorite band of the last 5 years or so. its 'unplugged', but a great example of the crazy vocal melodies of those 3 girls. guitarist/singer is like a savant or something.
I'm really excited to see Polvo. Cor-Crane Secret's such a great album. Didn't really care for their latest one, though. Devo, of course, will be fantastic. It'll be fun to see Cap'n Jazz again. Same goes for Dirty Projectors. I'll be attending this for sure.
Fixed. God damnit! For Immediate Release: DEVO FORCED TO POSTPONE UPCOMING TOUR DATES DUE TO SERIOUS HAND INJURY SUSTAINED BY GUITARIST BOB MOTHERSBAUGH LIVE DATES FOR 2010 POSTPONED UNTILL SPRING 2011 October 26, 2010 — (Burbank, CA) — DEVO deeply regret that they have had to postpone all of their upcoming live dates for 2010 due to a serious hand injury sustained by guitarist Bob Mothersbaugh. A glass shard sliced Mothersbaugh’s right thumb to the bone, severing a tendon. He underwent immediate emergency surgery and is expected to make a full recovery after proper care and therapy. Most of DEVO’s upcoming November tour dates, including Solana Beach’s Belly Up, Los Angeles’ Club Nokia, and San Francisco’s Warfield Theater, will be rescheduled for next spring and the public will be informed once new dates have been confirmed.
DAMN i was really looking forward to seeing them. something about austin and headlining acts having to cancel right before coming to town.
Total bummer about Bob 1. I have faith in the FFFF guys. They've pulled in some serious heavy-hitters in the past. The fact that they got DEVO alone should instill confidence in their ability to find a replacement. Crossing fingers...
austinist has a contest going - guess who it is and you get two vip passes. so yeah, they probably already have them booked. http://austinist.com/2010/10/27/devo_cancels_fffest_replacement_for.php#comments some people think b-52's since they are in galveston the day before. that would actually be kind of cool if they stuck to cosmic thing-era and earlier. i actually listened to that album about a week ago - it still sounds fantastic! great songs and the recording/production is top-notch - the guitar tones on there are so good. stooges would make me not miss devo so much. superchunk would actually make alot of sense. or one of those matador bands who are probably out touring after the big anniversary party in vegas - gbv, sonic youth or pavement - all here in the last month, but for the right $$$ they would be back. i saw a few say fugazi - thats a pipedream, but it would be sweet!
they are boring live, imo. but if you are a fan of queen at all you must come early to see magnifico! they are friends so im biased, but these guys kill it. the singer really nails freddie mercury. there are times when ive closed my eyes and felt like i was actually listening to the real deal. and the guitar player is spot on too! (he used to be in poi dog pondering many years ago).
i love punk rock, but ive never been a fan of the so-cal hyper-melodic style and descendents are pretty much at the forefront of that scene. still plenty of good stuff, but for me this is a huge letdown. i love devo and i couldnt give two poops for the descendents. why couldnt it have been the stooges! even the b-52's would have been fun.
I was really pulling for Faith No More. Oh well, I'm still stoked that they got ST which was one of the two bands I was hoping for.
