For an oldschool Austin vibe, you've gotta go with Quack's in Hyde Park. Good coffee, and you can sit out front. Plus, there's a great italian ice place next door.
i went to the Z-Tejas on w. 6th for lunch today and had some of the best fish tacos i've ever had in my entire life.
All those mentioned are groovy. Flipnotics is old-school Austin. Check out the one on Barton Springs Road. Java Company on N. Lamar, a few blocks from Waterloo Records (you've got to go there!), is cool, although they've upscaled it a bit. Book People, across the street from Waterloo, has a good coffee shop, and is an amazing book store. It's no Starbucks, thank god, and you can check out 2 or 3 floors of books while sipping your java. Enjoy!
Bingo! I love that stuff, and we always order it when we go there. A really great place for appetizers, beer, and ritas. Food is nothing to sneeze at, either, but a bit pricey. Lots of deck space, art on the walls for sale, which is common with lots of Austin coffee houses and eateries, and right on West 6th., close to art galleries and antique shops. Good call.
mojo's is great, but i think it's closed/closing. the best coffee is served at Little City on guadalupe (near 26th.) also, spider house (29th and Fruth) is a great place to have some coffee and chill outside. on E. 6th, Cafe Mundi is pretty cool also...
bummer. i haven\'t been to austin for a couple years so i\'m not sure. that place was so cool, they had the most awesome graffiti artists come and paint huge murals all over the back of it.
