what they played was great, but was disappointed they ended before 10 and there was no encore. much love to rocketspimp, had a great time man. thanks for letting us in on your group, it made everything else easier. leroy420, sorry we didn't get a chance to meet up...next year! my top 3 shows them crooked vultures the walkmen toadies
The grass is ruined, and the city just put $2.5 million into it...they are saying it will come back...but man, it looks like a disaster right now. DD
You meant the $2.5 million C3 is paying back to the city over 5 years? Also, C3 is contractually obligated to repair the damage and have been more than willing to take this on in the 2 days since it ended. I was shocked to hear how much b****ing there was about the work done on the park ("waaaaaaahhhh...money could have been spend on X"). It looked absolutely brilliant before the rain...possibly the best looking city park I've ever seen with my own eyes. A private company paid/is paying for the work, too. I can't, for the life of me, figure out what the hell is wrong with people sometimes. It is a fantastic deal for the city and it's residents, period.
Yes, it is an ok deal, but the park will now be closed probably through November...which ironically is the best time of year for parks in Austin. DD
Highlights... Thursday...at Emo's: The Walkmen...always been a fan but jesus they are so amazing in an intimate setting. Friday... Phoenix and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Phoenix seemed really grateful to be there. Saturday...the best day of music of my life. Mute Math and then planted up front at the Dell Stage. Grizzly Bear, Bon Iver and then the Decemberists. The build up from mellow to rocking and the rain just made it so freaking memorable. Bon Iver was so emotional that I was overwhelmed. Ending with Ghostland who are the best live act going. Sunday...Arctic Monkeys and Passion Pit back to back and Ben Harper with Eddie. I think Eddie was really messed up which was funny but it didn't affect his performance.
Looking forward to it again next year. I missed out on the $50 tickets today because I was getting a new laptop at work. Oh well, the $145 ones go on sale Tuesday. I'll probably buy one then just so I don't have to go through the hassle of trying to find a ticket next year.

^ that was probably the most fun performance of the weekend... those breakdancers had the place jumpin. love RBB
All estimates say through October only...which, in the past, was about the same amount of time it took them to reopen it. It's possible you're just wrong...like all the other whiny babies crying about the festival that brings in over $40 million to the local economy.
I ain't whining just pointing it out...I didn't say....close ACL.......come on man...all I said was because of the weather the grass got killed. And the city just spent millions on it......nothing more. DD
From what I heard C3 spent the money on it and the irrigation system as part of using the park. also, the grass isn't dead. they just need to wash away the mud and give the grass a chance to recover.
Mos Def had those same guys out dancing too. Good stuff As of Sept. 10, 2008, C3 had put about 300k into Zilker. They also pledged $2.5 million for upgrades to the park (a chunk of what we saw before the festival). C3 has to pay for ALL damages after ACL. Care to look at the contract? They had washed quite a bit of it away, but it rained again today and there is a pretty good sized puddle near Barton Springs road. I think it will be nice again soon enough granted we don't keep getting pounded with rain.
Mute Math needs to be one of the ACL bands performing at night to get their full show experience... They are performing in Houston 10/30. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5K7ikqmDRO8&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5K7ikqmDRO8&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/otqf7oIcUTQ&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/otqf7oIcUTQ&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
