festival was cancelled due to flooding, but atoms for peace are doing a last minute show at acl theatre downtown...tickets were $10 - first come/first serve basis. streaming live from their website right now! you're welcome! http://www.aclfestival.com/
The comments on Facebook were hilarious. The park was under water, as were many of the roads in the area and people were calling conspiracy and saying C3 was stealing their money...or saying it wasn't that bad (despite the near 12" of rain in that area and all of the pics showing the state of the Great a Lawn). It was the first time there was any type of cancellation other than the 30 minutes Tom Petty had to stop playing during a deluge in 2006.
The Cure during the rain Saturday night was incredibly awesome. So good. Queens of the Stone Age were also fantastic. Really sucked that they cancelled the third day but seeing the pictures of Zilker, I understood. Really wish the make-up shows they announced weren't so late. We had a 4 hour drive to make last night, we didn't want to leave any later then 10. The Atoms for Peace show didn't start until 10 though. We probably could have made the Franz Ferdinand show since it was supposed to end by 10 but they waited so long to announce times that by the time they finally did we were already on the road back home, since we just assumed it'd be later then that.
It's not that easy to just plan a show in 12 hours. I went to One 2 One to see The Lone Bellow and Wild Feathers and they were having issues with staffing at a small place that only held 250 people, so I can imagine at the other places it was just as bad, especially if they weren't planning on a huge crowd like I'm sure Moody wasn't. The show was really one of the coolest live music experiences of my life. I'd checked out The Lone Bellow before and recognized one of the band members as I walked in, so I said hey and gave him thanks for doing the show. He introduced himself and we chatted for a bit. After their show blew me away (standing five feet away from them), as they were leaving he called me by name and said he hoped I enjoyed the show. I was really more pumped about Wild Feathers because "The Ceiling" is my favorite single of the year so far. I started chatting with a guy who turned out to be their manager who was happy to chat with a new fan. Ended up watching the show with their families and between songs we chatted. Turns out the lead singer went to Katy freaking High and graduated five years after me. I actually went to school with his two sisters. Small world and great show. I hate that Sunday was canceled for those of you who didn't get to go see anyone, but there's no way Sunday would've been that awesome for me.
I was at this one. Muse was doing their show right before his, and Petty complained about there not being enough people at his show so they forced Muse to end their set early. Still the best Muse show I've ever seen, with lightning and thunder rumbling in the background.
going to have to call b.s. on this. i was at tom petty and it was about as crowded as any of the other major headlining acts were at ACL. i seriously doubt he is so "petty" as to demand that the other band quit playing and even if he did, i seriously doubt the festival organizers would have done that. they usually have one act stop 30 minutes before the other so you dont have 75,000 people all leaving at once. on friday night depeche mode ended at 9:30 and muse played till 10. saturday night the cure played till 10 and kings of leon were done at 9:30...they have always done it this way.
Apparently there was some kind of controversy between the two: http://www.muselive.com/forums.php?m=posts&q=18041
apologies to entropy then. i misread and thought they were both playing at the same time. i guess petty thought they would get their set cut short by rain so he requested muse to end early? tom petty is still way better than muse though. and i liked that song "uprising" better the first time i heard it when it was a battles song called "atlas". they also stole a little bit from blondies "call me" too. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/w8KQmps-Sog" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/IpGp-22t0lU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Was sad I missed Lionel Ritchie but Saturday show was great. And watching Junip Friday was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Didn't have the same impact that next day at Zilker with such a large crowd but getting to meet Jose Gonzalez Friday was pretty awesome. Now bring on FFF. Best damn festival in Texas.
Sad you missed Lionel Richie? Really? You're the only person I've heard say that. It's fine they had him in the festival. As the headliner, though, I thought it was a bad choice.
I heard it all over the place Sunday. I was shocked too. We tried to catch Divine Fits at Parish, but got there too late. There was a rumor of Phoenix at Speakeasy so we went, but I'm convinced it was just awesome marketing. That place was PACKED with people thinking they were going to play.
Apologies accepted. I'll have to respectfully disagree that Tom Petty is better than Muse. Just my personal taste and preferences and I'm known for having odd ones.
