The undercard is pretty good. I do not care for and actually despise a few of the names near the top of the lineup. Phoenix-Muse-Kings of Leon are the trio of festival sucktitude for me personally. Gross. I saw The Cure a few years ago at Coachella and while I love them, they were a pretty big letdown as a headliner. Some of my favorites that jump out at first glance include Atoms for Peace, The National, Grimes, Parquet Courts, Purity Ring, and Haim. I know that moes has got to be pretty pumped to see Vampy Weeks on there.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atoms_for_Peace_(band) Atoms For Peace is an experimental rock & electronic supergroup formed in late 2009 in Los Angeles, California. The group consists of Radiohead lead singer Thom Yorke (vocals, guitar, and piano), Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, longtime Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich (keyboards, synths), Joey Waronker of Beck & R.E.M. (drums) and Brazilian instrumentalist Mauro Refosco (percussion) of Forro in the Dark. Their debut album, Amok, became available for streaming on February 18, 2013, and was released on February 25, 2013.
I bought tickets for the second weekend so I really hope I don't miss out just because a band is playing only on the first weekend. Think they're all going to play on both weekends (at least I hope).
All bands play both weekends except for some of the small Austin based groups. I cannot wait for Atoms for Peace, hope they get a closing set. Excited for Kendrik Lamar too, it was impossible to get into one of his shows during SX.
Usually with ACL, Houston gets a some of these artists. If I can see Atoms for Peace, The National and Kendrick Lamar in Houston, I may consider unloading my ACL tickets.
Kendrick Lamar is already coming to Houston in June I doubt itll happen but I really want The Cure to come. I'd rather see them at their own show, so they can do an epic 3-4 hour set like they usually do
I'm looking more forward to the week in between. The number of shows in the small venues is going to be SXSW-ish.
totally agree. great reason to leave early and beat the crowds! was that the 2004 show w/ pixies and radiohead? i went to that one and even as a life-long cure fan who had never seen them live, i felt it was a let-down. that might have alot to do w/ the fact that i had seen pixies, radiohead, flaming lips and air all put on amazing sets...one of my all-time favorite bands was pretty much an afterthought for me. this line-up is interesting...it is more lollapalooza than ACL. i went to ACL every day/every year up thru 2008, but have not been since. i might actually get a weekend pass this year!
Yeah if you're a 90s new waver or a hipster. I could really do without Phoenix, Passion Pit and Kings of Leon again. While I am looking forward to seeing Depeche Mode, The Cure, Queens of the Stone Age (again) and the Black Angels (again) I think the lineup is crap overall. The Lollapalooza lineup blows the ACL lineup out of the water with regards to strong headliners and a more diverse card overall.
I totally disagree. Only names in the undercards for Lolla that aren't at ACL that I wish were at ACL are Death Grips, Hot Chip, Band of Horses, and Father John Misty. BoH and FJM tour all the time though. I'll take Franz Ferdinand/Arctic Monkeys/Okkervil/Savages/Tame Impala/Parquet Courts/White Denim/FIDLAR/Foxygen over that EASILY. As far as headliners, Lolla's is arguably even more generic then ACL. Both got The Cure, Phoenix, and Vampire Weekend. The Killers are just as overdone Kings of Leon. That leaves Nine Inch Nails + Postal Service vs Depeche Mode + Muse + Wilco. NiN would be awesome, but I don't think they automatically make the headliners that much better then ACL's at all. So I don't really see where you think Lolla is better. You could argue Coachella or Bonnaroo was better, but this line-up is a better version of Lolla IMO.
