I've always felt that a pro team in Austin in any sport would actually help UT athletics. From knowing some of the athletes from my days at the 40 acres, I always felt that UT players had a little extra on their egos because they were the only game in what is becoming a big city. So they were starting to get pro athlete treatment and it kind of spoiled them. Austin really needs a pro team to take a little attention (and the spoils of war) away from the student-athletes.

    nice!

i like the name and i like the logo. the only thing id change would be to keep the shape of texas in the bottom left part (big bend/rio grande). i think it would make the shape of the state stand out more.
if you dont like it, take solace in the fact that it could have been ALOT worse than toros.

    ARRIBA TOROS!

    Keep Austin weird!
I guess this fits. "Toros" has nothing at all to do with the city, so it's weird. Those of us who've lived here for years or, shockingly enough, are natives (not me, I've only been here for 25 years), will shake our heads at the obviously stoned guy who came up with this, as we buy tickets. NBDL in Austin!! Hey, maybe we'll get a real zoo someday. The first critter in a cage can be that stoned chump who came up with the name... I can see the name on the cage, "Stoned Chump. An example of a species numerous to the Hill Country and the halls of the State Capitol."

I suppose it's an insult to the fine, ordinary stoned folks who represent a far larger number of our fine Austinites, god bless 'em. Hell, somebody bless 'em, or pass the damned pipe!

    The Killer Bees
    The Stash
    The Blues
    The Town Lakers
    The Willies
    The Stoners
    The Traffic
    The Sounds
    The Caps
    The Eviro's
    The Slackers
    The Mopacers
    The Scarps
    The Dells
    The Techs

C'mon, minor league teams are supposed to have some character to their names not some generic ad guy name. I guess the fact that the Texans almost used Toro's and did name their mascot Toro just didn't make it to the Statesman

Does "Toros" have anything less to do with Austin than "Wranglers"? How 'bout "Express"? WTF is an "IceBat" anyway? I wouldn't get too worked up over minor league sports team names.

    Save room for Leslie!

He's a Ford Truck Mascot, that's all he drives
He ain't got no boundries, don't compromise

Express refers to Nolan Ryan's association with team when it was formed.

Icebats references the Bat colony that lives underneath the Congress street bridge. The are a very popular eco-tourist attraction.

    Both are apprapo.

I'm well aware of Nolan Ryan's nickname. It's a great name, butt has nothing to do with Austin, which was my point, and which was one of the repeated criticisms of the "Toros" nickname.

I'm well aware of the bats, as they have shat on my kayak, just wondering what exactly is an "icebat". This is a stupid name.

Not saying they couldn't have done better than "Toros", but it ain't bad, and it *is* the minor leagues after all.

cool logo but very unorignal name. are we an high school AAU soccer team??? what the hell, toros? i would have liked:

    Austin "Cross Dressers":
and have our own "Leslie" as the mascot. seriously, i've been all over the country and austin has to have the most cross dressers and sexually confused population in the country. it would have fit nicely.

Austin "18 wheeler accident on southbound I-35":
seriously, if anything is a constant in austin, it's traffic wrecks on 35 EVERY DAMN DAY! mascot would be a guy with crutches, neck brace, arm cast, and head wrap and a lawyer right next to him. logo would be a illustration of a massive wreck with WAY TOO MANY cop cars and ambulances blocking all but one lane.

    Austin "6th Streeters":
hey, if you know one thing about austin, it's 6th st. mascot is an an old fat guy drunk off his a** and a small group of scantily clad women also drunk, falling all over him. logo yet to be determined, but something similar to the mascots.

I wish there was more of that. His Spin columns from the early 90s (before I knew he was Mr. Mike from the Comedy Central re-runs of SNL) were/are a HUGE influence.

    sorry forgot one:

    Austin "Longhorns":
i know UT has the name but hey, they can say on the radio "Longhorns basketball tonight" and confuse people to actually show up and watch an D-League team. because has anyone noticed that 50 people show up to these games for the NBDL or whatever it's new name is?? you have to trick people to get there.
