A Playoff system with the top 4 teams is a win-win situation (unless you're #1 of course). The NCAA and the schools would make TONS of MONEY having playoff games, and I mean an insane amount. Imagine how much money a USC/Georgia game would make, I think a UT/VTech game would make even more. There wouldn't constant arguing over the BCS (unless thats what the NCAA and ESPN want ). Not sure what they'll do with the BCS once their contract is done, but like most of ya'll have said, it's completely moronic to have a computer decide who should play for the NC.
I absolfrickinlutely hate Tubbs. Not only is the coach of Auburn (strike one), he's an arrogant ass as well (strike two). He is the biggest con artist to ever walk a sideline in college football (besides Dennis Franchiphony). His instincts for self-preservation are amazing to behold. But as far as x's and o's and discipline, look elsewhere. He better keep kissing Al Borges' butt, because if he ever leaves, the Tigers won't be able to move the ball on Ball State. But I agree with him. ESPN's kingmaker role is becoming tiresome. But I don't think it sways media opinion. As a part-time component of the media, I'm not swayed by what is on that rather annoying channel. I hardly ever watch it except for ESPN News, which is what Sports Center should be: straight up recaps of the night's action, some interesting discussions with some news makers and analysts and highlights. That's it. If I hear Stuart Scott say something is "cooler than the other side of the pillow" one more time, I'm going to slap the lazy eye right out of him. (That was the result of a horrible accident which I feel sorry that it happened, but that is beside the point). Decide it on the field. There's not one damned excuse. Division I-AA does. Division II does. Division III does. Even the frickin' NAIA does. How? With a playoff system. Pick eight and let 'em go at it on the field. Not in the innards of some Rube Goldbergesque contraption made of copper and combining ones and zeroes. Alabama doesn't deserve to go to the National Championship game. BCS bowl, yes. NC game, no. They're not good enough. Ditto with VT. Same for FSU and (fill in the blank). There is Texas and USC.....and everyone else. Had to get this out of my system: Roll Tide. Burn in hell Fulmer!
To bamaslammer: LOL...pretty much said everything I was thinking. Hey did you make it to the game on Saturday? I got a student ticket (had to spend the extra $45 on the guest ticket cuz I was real worried they would swipe the ACT card ), but it was sooooo worth it. Incredible atmosphere; I was working at the Bryant Museum over the summer and went by again yesterday since I was still in town (because Wilma kind of ****ed up Florida). They wanted to know if I wanted to help out this Saturday, but I was supposed to head back down to Miami today. Then I learned classes are cancelled until Monday (10/31) down there (no power, hot water, etc) so looks like I'll be here for homecoming and the Utah State game. (As another side note, I'm headed over to the Athletic Department tomorrow or the next day to see if I can get an interview with Mal Moore for an assignment I've got; any suggestions of questions or interesting facts I should know?). Thanks! And Roll Tide ROLL! /end personal conversation Oh, and VT going undefeated? HA! Miami, with the nation's #1 defense will stop 'em.
Mooch, I have never understood why you went to Miami instead of the University of Alabama. Didn't you go to U of A and then transfer to Miami? You may have already told the story but do you mind telling again why you are going to Miami instead of Alabama?
Concur. What irritated me more than anyting was listneing to all the USC b****ing when LSU took the title. They adjust the BCS and hose the SEC, and now everyone can't fathom why coaches like Tubby are upset about it. I think the SEC is much tougher - so if you are going to "computerize" the bowl system, it better take the schedule difficulty into account. For the record - I can't stand USC - what a bunch of pompous whiners and ***holes.
Sorry, I'll clear it up: I've lived in Alabama for a few years and gone to high school here as well (lived in Houston before then). I have taken classes (over the summer for instance) at UA, but never was a full time student. When I had to decide where I wanted to go after hs, Miami it was. Great school and nice campus, but when it's still like 90 degrees there, I forgot what cold weather felt like. That's another reason why I'm enjoying my "vacation" with highs in the 60s.
UM's defense is outstanding, but their line is still not where it needs to be. Good luck getting a job with the U of A. Coach Moore is a tremendously nice guy, even if I disagree with some of his decision-making as AD. Since the Falcons were playing a Monday night game, I took my son and we had a great time at the UcheaT game. He can sing "Yeah Alabama" with the best of 'em and he had a great time at the game. The good thing about it is that it's only about a 5 hour drive or so from our place in Georgia. We got up early....took him to Krispy Kreme...hit about 90 mph on I-20 and we tailgated with a Foreman gas grill and some Bubba burgers (great frozen burgers). Great stuff. That's cool getting to work at the Bryant Museum. Love that place. I visit there and Archibalds BBQ every time I'm in town (Dreamland is good, but the Arch is just a bit better).
man the bcs makes the electoral college look good... Could you imagine if we had computers determine a presidential race?
