The Cat: Outstanding rant! But you made one mistake: You said anyone with half a brain could understand this. ...do you see where this bit of logic failed you?... ------------------ Behad Sergeant at Arms of the Clutch BBS
Sorry guys, I was away all day yesterday and didn't get a chance to reply to this. I am sure you were all disappointed. The Cat, responding to your post: I can't actually back up my prediction with evidence. Its just a feeling I have. A nasty, pessimistic feeling. Hopefully I will be dead wrong. I just don't feel very good about it. I know all the evidence that supports Webber going to Houston is strong, but I just have a bad feeling about it. To the others: I thought the Rockets were a playoff quality team, until they lost 5 0f 7 at the most important time of the season. Going into other threads and saying "now they have to win 9 straight" is still a pretty pessimistic outlook. What are the odds of that happening? I was just saying that, that is what they would have to do to make the playoffs. I never said that I thought they would actually do it. I wasn't being positive, don't worry. Anyway, I doubt I'm the only one who changed their opinion on the Rockets' playoff capabilities after that embarassing loss on Sunday. Anyway, you can let this thread sink to the bottom again if you want. I just wanted to respond. I didn't want to let it look like I was so stumped for a comeback to these great arguments, that I just ignored the thread. ------------------ Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon is the greatest player in the history of basketball. You aren't the only one, and that's somewhat logical. There's a good chance CWebb doesn't end up here. That, however, is not what bothered me about your post. As I've said before, there's a difference between negativity and irrationality. If you don't think Webber will be here, fine. He may not. But to say we will lose out on Dream, Shandon, Mo, Davis, Jackson, and everyone else waiting on CWebb is borderline insane. (please read last two paragraphs of my post for explanation) Don't go that far. ------------------ "We're not settling for just getting in the playoffs." "We want a higher seed. There's no doubt. Well, I read all your post this time! Good point about the players waiting for Webber to sign. I still think that my prediction is a possibility- the worst possibility, for sure. ------------------ Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon is the greatest player in the history of basketball. I see this offseason as a little more complex than signing Webber vs. resigning our own FAs. I also find it hard to believe Webber would leave a team that was built around him and already poised for a title run, to come here for the same money. This is not to say that most people would not prefer Houston to Sacremento. If we do not sign Webber, there is no guarantee we can resign our own players. For example, Mo wants a premier center to play alongside, Shandon wants to keep starting along with a big increase, etc. At this point, we don't even know how many #1 picks we have in the draft. We could end up with three #1 picks, plus our picks from last year (who really have yet to play in the NBA) in camp this summer. This should be a very busy and especially important offseason for CD, RT and company. ------------------
Damn, I've got WAY too much time on my hands...but I can't let this one go, for some reason. All of the following are posts (or excerpts from them )that ZRB has made in the last ten days: "I thought the Rockets were a playoff quality team, until they lost 5 0f 7 at the most important time of the season." "Now the Rockets have to go undefeated. We know that isn't going to happen. They couldn't even get a winning streak started before they choked the playoff hopes away. I disbelieve." "I don't think Webber would have come here anyway. Here's my rest of the season prediction: The Rockets finish the season 4-4. They blow the Atlanta game, and fail to sweep the central. Obviously, they miss the playoffs." "Bye Bye season. What a waste. This isn't an April fools joke. The Nets had NOTHING to gain from this, and the Rockets just let them dominate. Goodbye postseason. What a wasted season. 8 blown games. EIGHT! 48-26? Nope, 40-34. There you go. Season's over." "Sometimes, you just have a feeling about a team. You just know when they're going to make it. I just don't have that feeling." "I had my feelings that this was not a playoff team much earlier in the season. The Rockets were 13-9. They were in sixth place in the west, and tied with San Antonio. They then went on to severely underestimate the Denver Nuggets. They fell behind early, and their comeback was not enough. They lost 102-100. That was the start of that 6 game losing streak. It allowed Dallas and the rest of the Rockets' competitors to break away from them in the standings. Despite their 16-4 run, the Rockets were playing catchup the entire season. That loss defines the season for me. A comeback that just fell short. It was a bad sign of things to come. Now the Rockets need a miracle. A 10-0 run. Not very likely." OK, sounds like our classic pessimistic ZRB there. No surprises. But these are ALSO posts he has made in the last ten days: "The Cat is right. The Rockets still have a slight chance. As long as they are not mathematically eliminated, stop talking Tank. 1.5 games? Is that all? Wow. Thanks Cat, you just brought my optimism back to life." "If Hakeem keeps playing this well, and the guards get it together, maybe they will go 10-0." "I know cat, but it still bothers me to see them in front of the Rockets. The Rockets have had as much as a four game lead in front of them, and now they are behind. Likely the Rockets will pass them, but it still pains me to see them behind this late in the season." "If the Rockets wen't 7-3, and the T-wolves went 4-7, the playoffs would be a reality for the Rockets. See if you can find seven losses for the Wolves in that schedule of theirs. I can." "I see the Rockets going 10-2 and the T-Wolves going 5-7. That seems realistic enough, if you look at the schedules." "I can't be consistently optimistic. Sometimes I just have a feeling... " "I smell a 5 game losing streak for the Wolves and a 7 game winning streak for the Rockets." "Assuming Hakeem comes back and plays well, I can easily see the Rockets going 10-2." Keep in mind, everyone, that these are just posts from the last ten days...anyone who frequents this site as often as I do knows that his inconsistency has been going on for QUITE some time. Out of reading these posts, I have come to these conclusions: ZRB knew the playoffs were out of reach 22 games into the season, yet that we were a playoff quality team until we lost 5 of 7. He has feelings on just about EVERYTHING, good and bad...we are going to finish the season both 10-2 and 4-4, somehow mustering a five game winning streak inbetween and the Wolves will lose 7 straight. ZRB--the ONLY thing consistent in your posts is that they will ALWAYS manage to contradict eachother. ------------------ Jazzkiller
