I totally understand the non-essential nature of starting in terms of basketball impact. BUT, you cannot deny the PERCEIVED impact of the role. I believe if Harden were a starter on OKC, he would have been preferred over Westbrook when they had to trade one of them. It turned out that Harden was undervalued by the Thunder and they got robbed. And I don't think Ginobili's coming off the bench has much about "fit." I think it's Popovich's way to prolong the dude's career. When Ginobili came over to the Spus, he was not a young player like Harden or Lin. There's a big difference.
