Yeah. I haven't had Schlotskys yet and I've had the sugar-free ice cream a few times, but pizza is my weakness.
We'll see in a few years when your metabolism goes down. People who have never been overweight don't get it. Anyway, my update: I started Atkins on July 16th at 190 lbs and a tight size 38. I now weigh 169 and am on my way to 160 lbs I guess. My pant size is down to 34/30 (which is a b**** to find, btw). I've slowed down and consider myself to be in pre-maintenance. I have the occasional Corona light and eat 1-2 pieces of fruit a day. I also started doing Dance Dance Revolution at home with my wife, so I expect the pounds to drop even more nicely now. My brother and a friend just started Atkins after seeing my results. Good luck everybody!
As you get older, your body starts to let you down. I eat no differently than I did as a 25 YO, but the weight just creeps up on you. There is much more enlightenment and awareness than there was 25 years ago. There is also this powerful force called DENIAL.
Dang, Im pumped after all y'alls results. I've always had a slow metabolism but I have never been super overweight, but I still need to lose that extra 10 pds. Which book is the one that i need? http://atkins.com/shop/products/Atkins_For_Life_Book.html or http://atkins.com/shop/products/Dr_Atkins_New_Diet_Revolution_Soft_Cover_2002_Edition.html
also, im a strict vegetarian. will this diet support me even though i do not eat any meat or chicken?
Check it out, it is not really a fad. Just b/c many people are starting to do it does not mean it is a fad diet. Once you go off of the induction phase you can eat lots of different healthy foods.
Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution is the one to get. It gives you the basics, and that is really all you need. Kam...have 2 children, get a high stress job, and THEN talk about excercise and moderation. Laters, I am off to the gym. DD
More like 12" vertical. I'm 5'7.5"(yeah I measure in 1/2's) in High school, so 125 is about the right weight for my height and age.
i would have thought that would be tough...but maybe not. http://atkins.com/food/recipes/vegetarian.html
Maybe you should do a little research first. It's not a weight loss 'fad'. It's a different theory on what's good for the body. It will have a major impact on medicine (cardio esp), since clinical studies are supporting much of what Atkins has been saying for 10 years.
How is manipulating your metabolism to burn off stored fat a fad? All you are doing is going off of years of research and learning how the body truly works. It does not turn FAT into fat...it turns Carbohydrates into fat..... So....lower your carb intake and you lose weight. Pretty simple really. DD
DrapG, As I get older, the time I have to excercise etc has diminished. Of course if you go back to your old habits the weight will come back, but I intend to stay where I am now. I have sworn off sodas (used to drink 6-8 a day) and am minimizing the amount of carbs I take in daily. That is pretty much it...I have not denied myself anything....this has been the most enlightening lifestyle change (not diet) I have ever done. I know TONS of people who are slimmer following these guidelines. If you are slim already DrapG, good for you..... For those that may need some info....I am willing to share my experience. DD
I wasn't slim already. 3 years ago I was 6'1" and 230 lbs. 3 years of steady exercise and a dietary LIFESTYLE change made me 6'1" and 155 pounds that I am today. I just want to see if all the Atkins advocates can restrict their carbo intake for a lifetime... or at the least for the 3 years that I've altered my lifestyle. If so, then props to you and I wish you much luck! We all start with the same goal. I just don't know how long one can maintain Atkins. Everyone I know has given it up in less than 1 year.
