After hearing so much about Atkins, I'm going to try it for the next few weeks.

Of course that means I can only eat water, ice cubes, and certain fruits.

I'm sure to lose weight then. Sweet.

    oops
I just find the argument odd . . more than anything
    I cannot get around it . . . .

Killing and eating life. . is killing and eating life
Whether Fish, Mammal, Plant or bug . .. it is all LIFE!

So when Someone says they are an ETHICAL Vegetarian
I kind of just wonder. . . . if a plant was cute and cuddly enough
would they not eat it. .. .

    Just my thoughts but...

The main difference that a vegetarian would say about plants and animals is that animals (especially all vertebrates, which includes all meat, fish, chicken, etc) can actually feel pain and suffering similar to humans. All vertebrate animals have a developed spinal cord and brain, where they can feel and sense pain and other emotions. In plants, there have been no scientific evidence showing that they possess the same physiology as we do. Therefore, it is more "ethical" to eat plants, since we do not cause any known pain or suffering. However, who knows what science will find in the future, and this argument would be moot if we did find a similar pain system in plants as they are in vertebrates. But this is not the case as we currently understand things.

As far as the cute and cuddly argument, that really works for people who can eat say chicken (normally because most people haven't seen or interacted with a real live chicken) but won't eat a cat or a dog (more human association there). That would be a bit hypocritical to call yourself ethical for not eating dogs or cats but eating other animals including chicken, fish, etc.

Aww come on people. Exercise is the best tool to getting fit. That is the real problem.

I don't think anybody said anything about getting fit, just getting rid of some bodyfat. The diet does work for that. And it works even better with exercise.

Not to drag this thread out, but do you have any evidence to support this, or are you going by things you may have heard regarding eating fats and proteins.

While I totally respect your diet of choice, I have to disagree with your statement regarding the “clogged arteries” of someone who follows an Atkins type diet. Every study I have seen proves that the Atkins diet is actually good for the heart.
Study: Atkins diet good for cholesterol

It is my understanding that a diet high in fats, along with simple sugars is what gets people in the most trouble. That said, a diet high in fats and proteins minus the simple sugars is actually beneficial to the heart.

Again, I can only go by what I have read in books that promote a high protein diet...as well as many studies that have been published in mainstream magazines and newspapers such as Time, Newsweek, USA Today and the Washington Post.

    .

Personally, I think Atkins goes over the top promoting a diet high in fat. I, myself prefer the diet promoted in "Protein Power" which advocates leaner meats such as cold water fish, along with vegetables low in starch. All I can say is that it works for me; at 28 I am stronger and healthier than ever before. Ultimately, I guess that’s all that matters.
