I'll second what Mrs JB says. Although I didn't even wait till I was 30 (still only 29), but those pounds just seem to pile on with ease.
People like Kam get on drapg's nerves. drapg was a fat child and fat teenager. drapg hate's people with high metabolisms.
what is a KetoStix Rocket River looking into this . . and pilates. .. maybe I'll start monday need tomorrow to look into it.
My gosh. If you guys feel fat in the 180s, I belong with these guys: (WARNING: not for fans of Ally McBeal) http://www.dimensionsmagazine.com/dimtext/kjn/people/heaviest.htm Time to get off my ass.
River, Ketostix are indicator strips that you urinate on that tell you when you are burning fat. If you are on the low carb diet and the strip turns purple, then you are burning fat. It is a heck of a pyschological boost to see the purple. It let's you know things are working. DD
Whaaa? I'm 6'3" and I dropped from 200 to 185 and now all I hear is that I'm skinny as hell -- too skinny; sister is always tellin' me I need to eat something... Do the extra two inches I've got on you really make a difference?
Oh, believe me, I get the exact same comments EVERYDAY (literally) from friends, family, and even complete strangers. But they only see my small frame and not my little gut. Plus it doesn't help that I where all my clothes extremely baggy (size XL) so it looks like the clothes are wearing me, rather than the other way around. People literally try to force feed me their home cooking all the time, even though I don't want their nasty concoctions!
I hit three bills for a few weeks this year. I guess I should starting thinking about it instead of talking about it.
I once was 6'3" 300lb. By cutting out soda and reducing - not eliminating - carbs and exercising more often (though I exercised a little beforehand), I was able to lose 90lb. I later gained back 25lb (the dreaded "freshman 15" became 25), but then lost another 50lb to get down to 185lb. Now, I sit at 6'5" 195lb, with a lot of that muscle. My point? Losing weight is an awesome endeavour and is definitely not easy. And, there are ways to do it other than cutting out all carbs on, say, the Atkins diet. It requires a major lifestyle shift and giving up a lot of the sweeter foods, but you don't have to give up everything. Best of luck to everyone trying to lose weight. It's tough, but you'll feel that much better once done.
One thing I'd like to add re: weight, it's not a good indicator of how healthy you are. Ideal weights are dangerous in my opinion. Remember that muscle weighs more than fat, and if you are lifting, you are definitely gaining weight. The best indicators of healthy weight loss/fat reduction is measuring inches and body fat index. Good luck to all!
Agreed. I've never owned a scale, and I've never seen a need too. I've watched too many people (including my mother) get freaked out by their daily weight fluctuations. They get so hung up on acheiving that one magical number that they stop paying attention to how their body actually looks and feels. I use my mirror and my clothes to tell me if I need to cut back on my food a little or add an additional workout day for a while.
Heh - my mirror and my clothes told me I needed a change. Hey DaDakota - my stix are in the pink now! (Now if I could just get over to a drugstore and buy some Metamucil I'll see some of the weight off )
Mrs JB, Do you do the Pilates from the videos only? Or do you also go to classes? Do you need any kind of equipment to do Pilates? If you really do get results from just the video then the company should give you a comission, because I will buy them.
I remember my metabolism slowed at 21 and at 25. I've gained 30 pounds in the last 4 years. I have never worked out for more than a month, that may be my problem. Did work out 4 times this week though. I can't do Atkins because I think that requires me to give up alcohol.
FB -- I do Pilates from the videos only. A little background: Pilates was developed in the 1940s by Joseph Pilates as a physical therapy and rehabilitation system. His version used several large pieces of equipment that helped to both stretch and strengthen the body. Over time the Pilates method became very popular with dancers as a way to tone their bodies without adding bulk. However, the need to use the equipment with a qualified teacher made practicing Pilates impractical for the average person. To help remedy this, Pilates teachers began teaching "mat-work" classes which involve doing ab-centered excercises with no equipment. Although the excercises don't use the original Pilates equipment, they retain the original focus of "core strength" and flexibility. Anyway, there are lots of good videos out there now. If you follow them carefully, I believe it is possible for the average person to acheive good results without having to take expensive classes or equipment. I have an extra Living Arts beginner's Pilates video (my mom didn't know I already had one and gave it to me). If you want, you can e-mail me your address and I'd be happy to mail it to you (no charge). Just let me know if you'd like it.
Mrs. JB, Thanks, that's super nice of you. I would love to try the video. I may be doing something wrong though, because when I tried to e-mail you from your profile it wouldn't let me. I believe I have my e-mail set to receive if you want to send me yours, or any way that you think is good. If it's too much of a pain for you, don't worry about it.
That's weird. The system wouldn't let me send you an e-mail either. Sounds like a glitch -- luckily, I happen to be on good terms with one of the admins, so I'll ask him about it. In the meantime, go ahead and e-mail me at rebecca@rebeccascottage.com and I'll be happy to send you the tape.
