It doesn't sound like they could have met with any more success than the other group. Two teenagers are going to rob a gun store, shoot 88 blacks, decapitate 14 more, and then try to assassinate a presidential candidate? They'd be lucky to succeed in robbing the gun store. But, I'm not sure that it matters to me how credible their plans were if they were sincere in their intention to try.
I agree. But they are far more likely to attempt an assassination plot like this if they feel Obama is a serious threat against white people. You think it would be just as likely if it was Colin Powell running on a Republican ticket? There has a been a persistent campaign from segments of the Right (and, sadly, a lot of it has been the mainstream Right, not just the fringe) to portray Obama as a Black Panther-style, terrorist-supporting radical who hates white people. I'm not saying their purpose is to put Obama in danger. But it still has been dishonest, exploitive, and irresponsible, and it does increase the likelihood of an assassination attempt against him.
I'm sorry, did you get mugged at the ATM and get a backwards B carved in your face? Or is that you Peter, crying wolf again? DD
To the extent they've encouraged the attacks trying to portray Obama as a dangerous radical, they deserve blame. I don't know how involved they are in that. Hopefully, not at all. Some media types like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity would definitely deserve a share of the blame. Even if Obama isn't attacked they should be ashamed of themselves.
Especially spooky... 88 = eighth letter of the alphabet twice = HH = Heil Hitler 14 = Number of words in the following statement: "WE MUST SECURE THE EXISTENCE OF OUR PEOPLE AND A FUTURE FOR WHITE CHILDREN." Waste of Space put them under the jail.
that is weak......Limbaugh and Hannity do not condone or encourage violence. at some point, people have to be responsible for their own actions.
They condone and encourage hate. Hate leads to violence. And I never said these skinheads (if the story is true) should not be held responsible for their actions. They are the ones that should go to jail. But moral responsibility doesn't start and end with them.
Is this story actually from AUGUST? Good grief, this isn't even news. Um yeah, this is for sure an attempt to dislodge the "OBAMA WANTS TO REDISTRIBUTE WEALTH" headline from Drudge... Axelrod at his finest...
ehh......I guess it is your perspective. I personally don't care for Limbaugh, but I will tune if there is nothing else on......(i.e. no sports radio) 'condoning and encouraging hate' is strong.......have you ever listened to liberal talk radio? just watch those maniacs on 'the view'
I tend to agree with you, and I do not think the negative campaign can be implicated in the actions of these skinhead idiots. That said, with respect to a very negative, inflammatory person like Rush Limbaugh, I'd ask the following. If the entire people of the nation can be assessed for hatred and violence potential, you'd probably have (as with so many things in nature) a Gaussian curve. Say "hatred" is on the x axis. The number of people for each value of hate is on the y axis: So people like these skinheads are way way out there next the +4sigma area, the very far fringe of the curve. The question is: what is the effect of a Rush Limbaugh, propagating venomous negativity & playing the very boundary of irrational fear and anger for profit? I would argue someone like him, with his influence, increases the overall amount of hatred in the country (on both "sides" of the political spectrum!). If a near nutball listens to Rush for hours every day, it is possible that he moves from a +3 sigma hater to a +4 sigma hater. I just don't understand why more people aren't critical of hate for profit. And Rush is in no way alone, and I do not absolve all liberals of the charge. Not at all.
There's liberal talk radio? In Houston? Out of morbid curiosity, I've listen to Limbaugh on the radio a couple times over the last several months. It was cringe-worthy for me. And I'd sooner root for the Lakers against the Rockets than watch The View. Anyways, you're right. This has to do with perspective. If I saw Obama as a dangerous radical who'll turn American into an anti-white, pro-communist dystopia, I wouldn't be blaming guys like Limbaugh for these threats. But, instead, I see Obama as a relatively moderate, play-it-safe Democrat who, at his worst, is merely a political opportunist.
interesting. I don't doubt that Rush is a tool, it just kind of reminds me of Columbine, when the kids' parents blamed it on Marylin Manson. Marylin Manson was by no means a positive influence.......but not at all guilty. I doubt these skinheads listened to Rush and Hannity......they probably got their demented propoganda from more extreme outlets.
Men charged with plotting to kill Obama Story Highlights NEW: Plot included killing 100 African-Americans, beheading 14, officials say NEW: Plot was to end with attempt to kill Obama while wearing white, police say NEW: Law enforcement sources sees no evidence men could pull off plot Federal prosecutors charge Daniel Cowart, 20, and Paul Schlesselman, 18 (CNN) -- Federal prosecutors charged two men with plotting a "killing spree" against African-Americans that would have been capped with an attempt to kill Sen. Barack Obama while they wore white tuxedos, federal officials said Monday. The U.S. attorney's office in Jackson, Tennessee, said Daniel Cowart, 20, and Paul Schlesselman, 18, were self-described white supremacists who met online through a mutual friend. Both men have been charged with illegal possession of a sawed-off shotgun, conspiracy to rob a federally licensed gun dealer and making threats against a presidential candidate. The men planned to kill more than 100 African-Americans, including 14 who would be beheaded, according to the affidavit. But federal law enforcement sources said there was no evidence Cowart, of Bells, Tennessee, and Schlesselman, of West Helena, Arkansas, had any details of Obama's schedule. "We take this very, very seriously but we see no evidence these guys have the ability or the wherewithal to pull off what they say they wanted to do," one law enforcement source said. According to an affidavit from the federal agent who questioned them, Cowart and Schlesselman planned to charge at Obama with a car, firing from the windows as they went. They would be dressed in white tuxedos and top hats during the attempt, the affidavit states. Cowart and Schlesselman were arrested outside Jackson, about 75 miles east of Memphis, Tennessee, after an aborted robbery attempt last week, according to court records. Though they told investigators they would be willing to die in their mission, the men backed out of their October 21 attempt to rob the gun dealer after spotting two cars and a dog at the home, the affidavit states. The men also shot out the window of a church on their way back to Cowart's grandfather's home, where they were arrested the next day. Cowart and Schlesselman made their initial appearances before a federal judge Monday and are scheduled for a bond hearing Thursday in Memphis. Obama, an Illinois Democrat, is the first African-American nominee to lead a major-party ticket and was placed under Secret Service protection in May 2007, far earlier than other candidates. Campaign spokeswoman Linda Douglass said, "We never comment on security matters." Threats against Obama have led to arrests in two previous cases. In one, federal prosecutors concluded that the three people arrested with drugs and weapons in a suburban Denver motel posed a "true threat" to the candidate. In the second, a Florida man was charged with threatening bodily harm against the candidate in August. He has pleaded not guilty.
