Once I got out of grad school and picked a career that didn't rely on the arcana I learned there, it felt like I was getting dumber because I couldn't recall the info with the speed and accuracy I could when I was younger. However, like others have said, you pick up information throughout your life and with experience you can constantly turn some of that into knowledge.
who knows, but the real questions is how do we stop getting dumber...IMHO, its a function of your career and what you make out of it...
From what I've heard, your brain stops growing at around 25, but it can continually make neuron connections until you're dead or some thing happens to your brain. So, you'll learn faster up to 25 but can continue learning up until death.
I thought this was going to be a Gary Kubiak thread. I've always heard that if you want to learn a new language you should do it by your mid 20s.
Are you kidding me? That guy is an idiot, and I think he got banned for being a jerk. He would write in such a grandiose manner- half the time it didn't even make sense. He would write like that just for the sake of writing like that. I'm sure alot of folks here and especially in the D&D could write like that, but no one wants to appear like the pretentious fool that Hmm likes to be. The best written and spoken English is the type that is easily understandable and not the type that an AP English professor would give you bonus points for writing in an essay.
Learning a foreign language is much harder the older you get. If you immerse a child in two languages they should pick them both up easily, however introduce a new language to an adult and it very difficult to learn it. My suggestion is read and read and read and then discuss with others about everything. Question everything as well require explanations and assume nothing.
