That's my point for asking, non of us are doctors. Yao's other injuries were caused by accidental events so they should not count, nor should the infected toe, which was, to say it mildly, not handled well, by the medical people in the organization.

Since your answer is obviously not based on scientific nor medical analysis as you readily admitted that you are not a doctor, then maybe we can point to some actual living examples of big men who had multiple injuries but had relatively long careers. This from non medical professionals like us.

Z is the most obvious example since he has an almost identical case as Yao, and yet, he is still playing after many years since his foot was surgically reconstructed. Rik Smits had a relatively long career even if he had lots of injuries during his career. Shawn Bradley and Mark Eaton are also examples of very big players who had relatively long NBA careers. In fact, there is a litany of relatively smaller and very young players who did not last long in the NBA due to major injuries which have not been foreseen before they were signed or drafted. So all these negativity about Yao and his longevity may still prove to be false.

Of course, there is always that chance that he may not survive much longer in the NBA due to a re occurence of his foot injury or some other major injury that may occur. But to view Yao's future in all darkness is not only unfair to him but also to the Rockets who have put their faith and money on him. They may end up being wrong in placing their bets on Yao, but then again, there is also a good chance that they may be right after all.

Yao (Cash cow) + No one would trade for him due to health.
Martin - they've loved him for yrs. plus he's played under Adleman
Scola - Is beasting, but then again he would be at peak value.

This whole "Nobody will trade for him" is nonsense. DM already stated, last summer,"Besides Yao" other people was asking him for other players.

The longer he plays and improves, his stock will go up. I guarantee you, if he last a full year with no injuries to the same foot, many teams will want to sign him, not because he is a (Cash Cow) but he is cash cow who can play some basketball.

If the Rockets are going to trade him, they need him to play more minutes and by February they should have a lot of offers, if they make it known Yao is available.

Championship teams take risks........Sometimes it pays off and sometimes it doesn't.

    Technically, no one.

Realistically, Yao and Scola are probably the last to go. I can see AB or KM going at the deadline if a big trade is up for grabs.

Stop the Presses!!! Scola should be untouchable. For the simple reason that there is no one on earth that will give you his level of production at the price. He is set for a 24/12 type year and those guys don't grow on trees. And they certainly command max contracts.

Everyone here will start screaming to trade Scola now while he has trade value... I say he has trade value for a reason, and that reason is that he is productive. Why send him away for some 20/10 guy who makes more money just because he gets more love from the national media?

No one is untouchable right now. We have our goals, aim to win a championship. This goal must stay untouchable, any player is tradable if it's gonna take us to the top.

The closest player to an "untouchable" has to be Scola. Dude always plays hard, never misses games and he's paid a very decent salary considering he could average 20-10 this season.

Next would be Yao for no other reason than the $$$ he brings to the team.

    The rest are tradeable.

Yao. The whole team concept is built around him this year. It is an all-in year and we're going to see where he takes us given that he has little trade value right now due to the fact that everyone would be skeptical that he's damaged goods if we're willing to trade him. One caveat is that he would be valuable as an expiring contract rental for a team that just needs some inside size to put them over the edge to contend for the championship--like the Bulls for example. But a team going for the championship wouldn't be willing to give up any major pieces--they'd want to give up rookies or draft considerations plus some marginal piece to make salaries match up. So we still wouldn't get much back for Yao. We've got to see where the big guy can take us and if he can't get us to at least the WCF, Yao will no longer be untouchable.

Daryl Morey, John Paul Stevenson, Bill Worrell, Susie Boudwin, and about 8-9 Rockets Power Dancers are untouchable.

Otherwise, everyone else is available at the right price.

Where's the option for "all of them"? I don't want the Rockets to make any trade which involves giving up one of those four.

Anybody else is fair game, for the right player, though.

Daryl Morey is untouchable because by definition, he is the most efficient and statistically dominating GM out there.

Everyone voted Scola as untouchable  the guy hustles and can score but he's a big part of the reason were such a poor defensive team.

Hello, no one. The team with 0-3 record does not have a player who is untouchable.

Seriously Keith Jones has got to be the worst. Every year he has like a billion injured players he supposedly got ready for the season.

Scoff all you want however he has consistently headed one of the best sports medicine staffs in the nba year in and year out. Evidenced by his multiple selections to the us olympic team. A feat not many rocket players can boast. His oft injured men include who? Yao of all people? How many times has he come back from those injuries? I rest my case and thank you for showing what little knowledge you have of the Great Keith Jones.
