You'll be waiting a while, a looooong while. I work on the project and Houston isn't even on the next tier of cities to receive it in the next 2-3 years. We're working on San Antonio, Portland and San Jose right now, and it will be a year before everything is ready to start up. Next up in a year or two, Atlanta, Nashville, Phoenix and Charlotte, NC.
Its all about which cities will play ball and pony up the $$$ for infrastructure to lower their labor costs.
San Antonio was their HQ (SBC) for a long time until they changed their name to ATT and they still have a big office that resides there.
There is a logical basis on which cities get it. They have a checklist that they give to the cities. Check their website for more information. According to them, their hands are currently full with 34 cities. So no other cities will get it, at least not right now.
I live in Austin. Also looks like I'm getting a Time Warner speed increase. Went from 30/5 to 200/20.
They need to get on it. I don't want to use Comcast, but I may have to use their internet service, at the least, and that's a prospect I'm not happy with.
This is pretty good news for me. AT&T might be an option for me soon. Comcast also upgraded blast customers today to 105 MBps down which is nice. Been waiting for this upgrade for a few months now.
Blast which used to be 50 is now up to 105. And Extreme 105 is now up to 150. Honestly, considering the promotions out there for Blast and lack thereof for Extreme 105, you get more for your money with the blast package now with this upgrade in speeds.
